The top of the MAC East collides with the top of the MAC West as Bowling Green heads up to take on Western Michigan Wednesday night.
Both teams currently are destined to meet each other in the MAC Championship, but a loss here can damper both teams chances at having a rematch later this year.
Bowling Green has a little bit more leeway as they sit ahead of Buffalo, who is 3-2, and a collection of 2-3 teams.
However, Western Michigan has a brigade on their heels. Toledo, NIU, and CMU all sit at 4-1 and tied for 2nd place in the MAC West.
The Falcons have proven to be one of the best offensive teams in the nation and have showcased that plenty of times this season.
Sitting with the 4th best offense in the country, Bowling Green has passed for 430.2 yards per game behind Matt Johnson’s arm. Johnson has thrown for 3686 yards to go along with a ridiculous 33 touchdowns to just 3 interception ratio.
Bowling Green has used their high powered, high attack offense to beat teams such as Maryland and Purdue, both Big 10 participants.
Bowling Green has won 6 in a row since their loss to Memphis and have had no problem playing on the road. Sitting 4-1 this season SU away from BG, the Falcons lone away loss came to the Tennessee Volunteers opening week.
The Falcons have also been a solid play for backers. On the season, the Falcons are 7-2 SU and an identical 7-2 ATS. They come in off a route of Ohio last week that saw them put up a 62 spot in a 62-24 win.
The Broncos aren’t that far behind the Bowling Green attack by any means.
Western Michigan sits 22nd in the nation in total offense, but does it in a more balanced way. They are averaging 485.8 yards per contest with 208.2 coming from the rushing attack and 277.6 coming through the air. Both QB Zach Terrell and RB Jarvion Franklin give the Broncos such a threatening duo.
QB Zach Terrell has thrown for 2369 yards to go along with an impressive 23 touchdown to 6 interception ratio. As for Franklin, he’s carried the ball 135 times on the season and rumbled his way for 660 yards and 5 touchdowns.
WMU has the ability to score right up there with BG too. On the season they’re averaging 38.0 points per game and that number goes up to 41.2 at home.
WMU knocked off Bowling Green in the teams’ last meeting back on October 18th of 2014 in a lower scoring 26-14 game.
