The Volunteers cracked the preseason Top 25, barely, as they welcome in the Bowling Green Falcons out of the Mid American Conference for their home opener on Saturday.
Tennessee has many places on the depth chart they need to fill in with young, unexperienced players, but do have a solidified QB. That is something a variety of teams in the SEC are looking for.

The defending MAC East Champions look to build off a solid campaign in 2014.
Bowling Green will bring back every single offensive starter they had in 2014, which is a solid sign for them as they had one of the best offenses in the MAC.
Bowling Green
The Falcons can consider 2014 a giant success of a year. They won their 2nd straight MAC East Championship, but dropped a blowout decision against the Northern Illinois Huskies.
Following that, they won their first Bowl game in 10 years as they defeated South Alabama with a long pass play down the final seconds of the game.

The Falcons will rely heavily on QB Matt Johnson, who missed the whole season last year following a hip injury in the team’s season opener.
Johnson had a phenomenal 2013 season as he threw for 3467 yards and 25 touchdowns. Bowling Green also returns a pair of running backs that rushed for nearly 1500 yards last year as well.
Tennessee
The Volunteers open the season ranked #25 in the nation and are expected to be a sleeper in the SEC. That is thanks in large part to their stellar returning QB Joshua Dobbs.
Dobbs won 4 of 5 starts in 2014 and was the MVP of the Volunteer’s Bowl victor in the Taxslayer Bowl.
The Volunteers are very thin in other places with them either graduating following last season or due to injuries.

At safety, LaDarrell McNeil will miss time with an injury, which will make an already thin Volunteers’ secondary thinner. Also missing time will be receivers Jason Croom and Vincent Perry.
Dobbs will still have some solid targets to throw to out wide and has shown he has the ability to make his receivers better. Dobbs threw for 1206 yards and 9 touchdowns last year. He also showed off his dual threat abilities by rushing for 8 touchdowns.

Not saying they pull an outright upset, but the Falcons have a legit chance here to keep this game close. They should do just that and give Tennessee all they can handle Week 1.
