The Ball State Cardinals did not start the season off on a great foot with a loss, but have since come back with 2 straight wins and will now look to carry that momentum over into Saturday’s game against the Toledo Rockets.
The Toledo Rockets are 2-1, but really should be 3-0 with their loss in week 2 being one of the worst losses I have ever seen as their win percent approached 99.6% and they still manged to lose. They did, however, bounceback last weekend with a big win over Eastern Michigan University, so they may have been able to put that behind them and should be ready for Ball State this week-end.
Ball State Cardinals
Ball State won a razor tight game over the NIU Huskies with wide-out Yo’Heinz Tyler playing a big role with over 100 yards and it would not surprise me if he once again has a big game here against Toledo.
RB Caleb Huntley I would not expect to be a huge factor here, unless the coaching staff makes a concerted effort to get him the ball, as I expect the Cardinals to be playing from behind and they will likely need to abandon the run at some point.
That leaves the onus on QB Drew Plitt who has not been all that great this season, but does have it in him to step up and with the weapons he has, he may be primed for a solid outing here on Saturday.
Toledo Rockets
Toledo dominated Eastern Michigan last time, as they almost had 500 yards of total offense with the running game being the key factor in that contest. Bryant Koback rushed for nearly 150 yards in that game, and he really is in an A+ spot here against a Ball State front 7 who can struggle against the run at times.
The one thing that Toledo will want to work on is their ball security, as they seem to be consistently turning the ball over this year which is obviously not a recipe for long term success.
