The first game in October will bring a win to one of these two teams that desperately needs it. The early part of the season hasn’t been kind to either of these teams, so this will be an interesting game to watch.
Although losing has been the norm for these two sides, Northern Illinois lone win did come at this stadium, so they might have the upper hand in this game.
Northern Illinois leads the all time head to head series 24-20-2.
Ball State Cardinals
Although Ball State has put up some good offensive numbers this year, they can’t seem to get their defense on the same page, hence their 1-3 record.
[dfads params=’groups=220&limit=1&return_javascript=1′]
Offensively, the Cardinals are averaging a very respectable 33.75 points per game, but unfortunately, they are giving up 35.5 points per game to their opponents.
In their latest loss, a 23-34 defeat to NC State, Junior QB Drew Plitt had himself a game, throwing for 333 yards. No touchdowns through the air for Plitt, but he kept the turnovers to a minimum, by throwing only one pick, which is something he has definitely struggle with in the early part of 2019.
Though their two touchdowns came on the ground, Ball State struggled to get the run game going against the Wolfpack, with 5 rushers coming up with only 84 yards.
The key to Ball State winning this game is getting the ground game going, limit the turnovers that have killed this team in the past, and find a way to hold up on defense.
Northern Illinois Huskies
The Huskies have struggled on both sides of the ball this year, and it looks like they will get their fourth straight loss in this one.

Their lone win of the year came back in August, a 24-10 win over Illinois State.
Though they only lost to Vanderbilt last weekend by a touchdown, this team hasn’t been in a close game all year long. Their average range of defeat is 20 points this year, so that gives you a glimpse of how bad things have been for this Huskies team.
Offensively, NIU is only scoring 16.75 points per game, and have only scored more than that average once, back in their lone win against Illinois State. Defensively, it’s not much better, as the Huskies are giving up 28.25 points a game to their foes, with a season high of 44 points against Nebraska.
The key to Northern Illinois winning this game will be somehow finding a way to get the offense rolling. If they come out flat once again, this game will get ugly fast.

Free Week 6 NCAA Football Pick
This game won’t be a pretty one, but this is the epitome of a conference game, which makes this particular game so intriguing. Vegas has this being a close game, but I’m not too sure about that.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: OVER the Number
As I said above, this game should be an ugly one, but with neither team knowing what the object of playing defense is, expect this game to go over the number.
Take Ball State to win this game on the road in a mini shootout. I don’t see this one getting anywhere near 100 points, but 60 is not out of reach at all.
