In a week filled with intriguing SEC matchups, this one could have the least intrigue. Auburn – picked by some to win the SEC – is 4-4. Texas A&M got off to a hot start but has since been unconvincing.

Auburn will look to right the ship in this one while the Aggies will be trying to get things rolling in a manageable late season schedule.
Auburn
When people had high expectations for Auburn coming into this season, it was due in a large part to quarterback Jeremy Johnson as well as the Tiger defense.
Well, Johnson has found his way to the bench and the defense is the 22nd worst in the country in terms of yards allowed per game.
Sean White has taken over at quarterback but has thrown just one touchdown since stepping in 5 games ago.

As bad as the defense has been though, the offense hasn’t spent enough time on the field. The Auburn offense is 96th in the country in time of possession.
While the Tigers are 1-4 in conference play, just one of those losses came by more than 8 points. They lost 45-21 at LSU – arguably the best team in the country – but lost their other three games all by 8 points.
There is a high chance of rain on Saturday in College Station so this one could get ugly. This won’t work in either team’s favor necessarily but it could allow for Auburn to steal a game they shouldn’t win.
The Auburn defense has forced 12 turnovers through 8 games and they should force a few more if the weather is nasty. The Tigers lost a close one, 41-38, at home to the Aggies last year and this could be another close one in Texas.
While Auburn has struggled and failed to reach expectations, they are not a bad football team. They still can and will compete with the SEC’s top dogs.
Texas A&M
While he may not be the next Johnny Football, true freshman quarterback Kyler Murray gave Aggies fans something to cheer about last Saturday against South Carolina.
He took over for Kyle Allen and threw for 223 yards and picked up another 156 on the ground as he led the Aggies to a win in his starting debut.
Aggies fans should be pleased with that type of performance along with running back Tra Carson who ran for 122 yards and a touchdown in the win. Carson had struggled in his previous four games accumulating just 232 yards in that stretch.
While Murray’s performance was impressive and Carson got back on track in a big way, South Carolina has really struggled since giving North Carolina their lone loss of the season in the season opener. Their defense has hardly been something to worry about and their offense has fared roughly the same.
But, then again, Auburn hasn’t been too impressive either. If Saturday night turns into a rainy game, the Aggies will need to rely on Carson and Murray to run the ball effectively. Auburn’s run defense has been pretty bad thus far – even when they know they’re up against a running offense.

Murray is just a true freshman though so the bright lights could provide some new added pressure. However, he did start last week for the Aggies who were trying to stop a two game losing streak and Murray made sure their season didn’t go down the drain.
This game could be telling for the immediate future of Texas A&M football as Murray will get a big chance against one of the SEC big names to show what he can do.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
• The Aggies are 11-18 ATS in conference games under Head Coach Kevin Sumlin.
• The Aggies are 3-8 ATS at home since the start of the 2014 season.
• The Tigers are 8-4 ATS as an underdog under Head Coach Gus Malzahn.

Take away the LSU loss and Auburn has been close in every one of their games. This one shouldn’t be any different. The Auburn defense will do enough to keep this one tight and a late turnover by Murray will lead to an Auburn victory.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Auburn +7.0
History has shown that playing at home and being the favorite doesn’t mean much in SEC games. Murray has a bright future for the Aggies but he will make one too many mistakes in this one. War Eagle.
