Virginia Tech went blow for blow with Clemson in the ACC Championship game but came up short in their attempt to pull off the upset.
The Razorbacks experienced one of the oddest seasons in all of the FBS having alternated wins and losses in every game since their win over Texas State in the 3rd game of the season.
After that win over Texas State brought the Razorbacks to 3-0, they have alternated winning and losing every game since to finish at 7-5.
Maintaining that pattern would mean a win in their bowl game following their embarrassing loss to Missouri in the regular season finale.
That type of pattern follows suit to their team statistics as Arkansas both scored and allowed 30.8 points per game. They allowed 429 yards per game and averaged 438 yards per game.
Offensively, the Razorbacks have been impressive relying on inexperienced Austin Allen as well as their usual strong rushing attack.
Allen has come on nicely – finishing the season with 61.4 completion rate and a 23 to 12 touchdown to interception ratio.
Rawleigh Williams III has been an even nicer surprise – rushing for 1326 yards and 12 touchdowns on the season.
It will be up to Williams III to maintain that effectiveness to help Arkansas control the game as Virginia Tech’s offense has been rolling this season and allowing them to get going could spell results similar to Arkansas’s 56-3 and 38-10 losses to Auburn and LSU, respectively.
Virginia Tech Hokies
Quarterback Jerod Evans was overshadowed – reasonably so – by two other ACC quarterbacks in Deshaun Watson and Lamar Jackson.
But, Evans put together a very impressive season and was the main reason for Virginia Tech’s 9-3 regular season record.
Evans finished the year with a 75.3 Adjusted QBR and totaled 37 touchdowns on the season. Evans threw for 27 with just 7 interceptions while picking up 10 more TDs on the ground to go with 759 rushing yards.
Those 759 yards led the team so it is clear that the Hokies went as Evans went.
They will then obviously need another strong performance from him to knock off Arkansas.
In Virginia Tech’s 4 total losses on the season including the loss to Clemson in the ACC Championship game, Evans had 5 of his 7 interceptions.
A potential reason for concern for the Hokies is the weaker part of their defense was their rush defense. It wasn’t poor by any means but could be exploited by Arkansas’s rushing attack.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
• Over is 11-2 in Virginia Tech’s last 13 non-conference games.
• Arkansas is 6-2 ATS in their last 8 games away from home.
• Arkansas is 12-2 SU in their last 14 non-conference games.

The SEC biase should impact the public as well as Arkansas’s success out of conference. But, I think Evans will be too much for the Razorbacks in this one.
They will get behind and be forced to move away from their gameplan and that will be challenging for Allen. I like Evans to lead the Hokies to their 10th win of the season.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: UNDER 61
If Evans were to return next season – which he should, Virginia Tech could not only have a Heisman candidate but they could be potential contenders for the playoff.
This game will leave Hokies fans excited to see what Evans and the team can do next season.
