Arkansas has been a nice surprise and it feels like there is a story about them every week, a 4-0 ATS start will always grab some attention.
Texas A&M has just one blemish, a loss to Alabama. I am still trying to figure out what they are.
Lot’s of questions but the biggest one for me is how long can Arkansas keep this up?
Arkansas Razorbacks
Though it might not have looked like it at the time, the hiring of Sam Pittman to be the head coach is proving to be a masterstroke.
I think any real improvement on the field was expected to come much further down the road but they have been competitive off the hop, hence the perfect ATS record.
It was also expected that Feleipe Franks would be a major part of any immediate success. He has played pretty well but he is hardly setting the SEC on fire in his new home.
The key to Arkansas’ success this season has been being more opportunistic. They have had a knack for making plays this season with mostly the same team. That is why Pittman is getting so many accolades.
They took on Georgia in their opener and the rest of the schedule, beginning this week, is going to be tougher.
Texas A&M Aggies
Evaluating football teams is all about context. The loss the Aggies had at Alabama is not good, but after back to back follow up wins over Florida and Mississippi State this team looks solid.
Further, with Auburn and LSU looking like less than expected maybe Texas A&M is the second best team in the division after Alabama.
One key factor is the health of Isaiah Spiller at running back. He has been their best offensive weapon this season. They might not need him again this week but if you wanting them to cover double-digits, that could be a factor.
Speaking of context, Mississippi State is not the team we thought they were when they knocked off LSU. However, holding them to just 14 points is encouraging for the defense. They might have been a little shell shocked after games against Alabama and Florida.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends
- Under is 9-3 in ARK last 12 road games.
- Under is 6-2 in TAM last 8 games overall.
- Under is 10-4 in TAM last 14 games in October.
- Over is 9-4 in TAM last 13 home games.
Free Week 9 NCAA Football Pick
I am assuming that Spiller plays and that helps the Aggies look a lot more dynamic then they did last week against Mississippi State. They need to score a little more to get comfortable with the cover here.
4* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Texas A&M -12.5
Mostly I am breaking this one down as the Aggies being able to beat the Razorbacks by a touchdown each half. That seems more than reasonable.
At some point, the bubble has to burst for Arkansas. On the road against an opponent that is at least a tier up from recent ones seems like a nice fade spot.
