The Arkansas Razorbacks will be traveling to Texas on New Year’s eve to take on the TCU Horned Frogs in the Texas Bowl from NRG Stadium. Even though the Razorbacks only had three wins this season, in a wacky year with teams pulling out of games left and right they opted in to play against the Horned frogs in this game. Arkansas is currently on a four-game slide since starting 3-3 and most recently got stomped by Alabama 52-3 in their last appearance.
Arkansas Razorbacks
The Razorbacks ended the regular season with some really tough opponents to close it out. They had a road game at Florida and a home game against Alabama for two of their final four games.
Florida transfer Feleipe Franks is having a fantastic season in his new change of scenery. The senior QB has been very efficient all season as he connected on 68.5% of his passes for 2107 yards along with a 17:4 TD to INT ratio. Franks has only tossed one interception in his last five games. He has been dealing with a chest injury that actually sidelined him for the Missouri game.
RB Trelon Smith has been great since having to step up in the hole Rakeem Boyd left when he decided to opt-out. Smith is also an NFL ready talented running back and has eclipsed 100 yards in two out of his last four games. The junior RB has recorded 710 yards on an average of 5.3 yards per attempt.
Offensively, the Razorbacks average 25.7 points per game which is ranked 87th in the FBS. They average 240.2 passing yards per game and 151.3 rushing yards per game.
The Razorbacks’ defense was exploited most of the season and is a big reason they only won three games. The pass defense is an issue as they stand 101st while the rush defense isn’t much better at 94th. They are surrendering an average of 34.9 points, putting them 98th in the FBS.
TCU Horned Frogs
TCU comes into this bowl game on a three-game winning streak and will try to win its third bowl game in four years. They lost three out of their first four games of the regular season and went 5-1 the rest of the way. The Horned Frogs went 2-0 against ranked teams this season, beating Texas and Oklahoma State.
Max Duggan didn’t post huge stats in the air this year because this team likes to run. The sophomore QB did have a couple of big games which included a career-high 265 yards against Oklahoma State and has tallied 1795 passing yards and a 10:4 TD to INT ratio. He also is the team’s leading rusher with 546 yards this season.
Gary Patterson likes to feature an array of RB’s in his backfield, but Darwin Barlow leads all backs with 428 yards on the ground and is gaining a team-high 5.9 yards per attempt this season.
Wideout Quentin Johnston had a big role to fill when Jalen Reagor left for the NFL this past season. The freshman has come on strong late in the season with a combined 247 receiving yards in his last two games. The freshman WR has recorded a team-leading 487 receiving yards.
The TCU defense is their top strength. They have contained some high scoring foes with some cupcakes in there but have allowed 24 or fewer points in six consecutive games. The pass defense stands 52nd overall while the rush defense is even better at 25th in the FBS. The Horned Frogs are averaging 30.8 points on offense, ranking them 48th overall. They are allowing an average of only 24.2 points, putting them at 38th in the FBS.

Free Texas Bowl NCAA Football Pick:
I think that Arkansas has the weapons to be able to keep up with TCU. Also, three of the Horned Frogs offensive linemen will be out so the Razorbacks should be able to cause some pressure.
