HISTORY: Coastal Carolina and Appalachian State have faced off sporadically as Carolina rivals prior to joining the Sun Belt in 2017. The Mountaineers hold a 7-1 all-time series lead, but the Chanticleers did win the last meeting in Conway..
Appalachian State Mountaineers
Appalachian State’s season has slowed down a bit after an extremely eventful four-week stretch to open the season. The Mountaineers nearly defeated UNC in a shootout at home in their season opener, but they made things right by stunning Texas A&M in College Station in Week 2. The magic continued for App. State, as they defeated Troy in their Sun Belt opener on a hail mary. The Mountaineers luck ran out when JMU came to town, as they blew an imfamously familiar 28-3 lead.
The Mountaineers have won three of their last four games since, and they looked sharp last weekend for their homecoming game.
In Week 9, Appalachian State defeated Robert Morris, 42-3, improving to 5-3 against the spread this season.
Appalachian State scores 36.9 points per game, while allowing 24.1 ppg.
Chase Brice is one of the most experienced quarterbacks in the country, and he’s totaled 47 starts between stints with Duke, Clemson, and the Mountaineers. Brice threw for a career-highs of 361 yards and six touchdowns against UNC in the opener, and his efforts versus Texas A&M and Troy were admirable. Brice tossed four scores in the win over Robert Morris, and he’s built for a game like this on the road.
Brice has passed for 1,921 passing yards with 22 touchdowns to four interceptions through eight starts.
Cam Peoples and Nate Noel have split touches this season. Peoples had a career-day against Georgia State’s stingy defense, going for a career-high 168 rushing yards and two scores. Peoples leads the team with 551 rushing yards and five touchdowns. Noel led the squad in rushing last season, and he’s been effective in two games back from injury. Noel has totald 305 rushing yards and 15 catches through five games.
Dashaun Davis and Christian Horn have been the primary receivers for Brice this season. Davis has been steady through nine games, catching four passes or more in five of those, and leading App. State with 31 receptions. Horn caught the memorable Hail Mary touchdown versus Troy, and he leads the team with
Coastal Carolina Chanticleers
Coastal Carolina came into October with an ideal 4-0 start. A pair of three-touchdown performances from Grayson McCall led them to home victories over Army and Gardner-Webb to open the year. The Chanticleers then picked up a comeback victory over Buffalo the following Saturday, and they opened Sun Belt play on a strong note with three straight wins.
An undefeated Coastal Carolina team hosted Old Dominion for their homecoming, and they were blindsided, losing by 28 points on their special day. The Chanticleers bounced back on the road after their bye last time out, in a clutch underdog spot.
In Week 9, Coastal Carolina (+2) defeated Marshall on the road, 24-13, improving to 3-5 ATS this season.
Coastal Carolina is scoring 31.9 points per game, while allowing 27.2 ppg.
Grayson McCall is having another fantastic season for the Chanticleers, and he should be on every NFL radar. The junior quarterback got CCU back into the win column last weekend, but this is the game the Sun Belt has been waiting for. McCall versus Brice could deliver the best conference game of the season.
McCall has thrown for 2,061 passing yards with 19 touchdowns to one interception through eight straights
C.J. Beasley and Reese White split carries for CCU. White opened the season with an 133-yard performance against Army, and after missing three games he returned last weekend versus Marshall. Beasley held the lead role in his absence, posting a pair of 115-yard performances against Louisiana-Monroe and Georgia State. Beasley leads Coastal with 559 yards rushing and four touchdowns, while White has added 334 yards through five games.
Sam Pinckney, has come over Georgia State and emerged as McCall’s favorite target early. The fifth-year has five passes or more in six of eight games this season, and he leads Coastal in receptions (45) and receiving yards (628). Redshirt freshman Jared Brown has been strong alongside him, catching 34 passes for 622 yards and a team-leading five touchdowns.

Free Week 10 NCAA Football Final Analysis:
Mountaineers versus Chanticleers has such a ring to it, this one should be on Saturday man.
Appalachian State and Coastal Carolina represent what Fun Belt is all about, and we may finally receive some good football on Thursday for a change. Both Carolina schools enter this one sharp, but this will mark this third time App. State has traveled this season. While the Mountaineers did pull off the upset at Kyle Field over Texas A&M, they haven’t played a team of this magnitude since losing to JMU.
Coastal comes in this one ready to make things right on the teal turf. The homecoming loss was embarrassing and unseen, and the way they bounce back versus Marshall last weekend was great sign. The Chanticleers are still focused, with their eyes on the prize and potential a hefty bowl game check if they keep their winning ways going. I love spotting them the points again this week, especially with them returning to Conway.
