Clemson is regarded by many as the team with the best shot to overthrow Florida St in the ACC. What stands in their way is a bunch of ACC teams aware of the same opportunity.
But before that, standing in their way is the Appalachian St Mountaineers.
Dating back to last season, the Mountaineers have won seven straight. On the other side, the Tigers have won ten of eleven dating back to last season.

Something’s gotta give. Clemson – like many teams this early in the season – have the College Football Playoff in mind. A win isn’t all they need this week. They need to get rolling as they hit their ACC schedule.
Appalachian St
The Mountaineers brought back 11 starters from their offense last year.
Taylor Lamb looked good last week. Their run game was strong – rushing for 390 yards last week against Howard.
The Mountaineers are widely remembered by people of this day and age for their upset over Michigan in 2007.
Michigan entered that season as a strong contender to win the Big Ten. They were ranked 5th in the AP Poll the week they played the Mountaineers.
Clemson entered this season as a strong contender to win the ACC. They are ranked 12th in the AP Poll coming into this game.

Can history repeat itself in Death Valley this Saturday?
Clemson
There are two reasons a lot of people picked Clemson to win the ACC this sesason: DeShaun Watson and their defense.
DeShaun Watson was very impressive to open up the 2015 season. The defense also was very impressive.
However, the Tigers opened with Wofford – not very much of a test for either Watson or the Tiger defense. But people’s high expectations for Watson and the defense were not in regards to how they would play against non-conference “cupcake” opponents.
People were expecting those two to lead the Tigers through the ACC. So, the non-conference games shouldn’t be a problem. Wofford was not a problem at all.
The Mountaineers will present a different set of challenges for Clemson. However, over the past few years when Clemson has been a top ACC team, the times that they have struggled have been in primetime games against big time opponents.

The Clemson defense should be priming themselves for their ACC opponents but if they overlook the Mountaineers they may find themselves in trouble.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Prediction
Watson is a name that everyone will know by the end of this season and one of the few things that can stop him is an injury. He is healthy as he has ever been and the Mountaineers won’t be able to slow him down.
8* Free NCAA Betting Pick: Clemson -18.5
The Clemson defense will feast on an inferior opponent. It won’t matter that 11 offensive starters returned this year for the Mountaineers. Tigers win in a blowout.
