Wildcats vs. Red Raiders QB Matchup
Behren Morton returns at quarterback for the Texas Tech Red Raiders after another productive season. Morton appeared in 12 games and completed 219-of-332 passes for 2,780 yards. He finished the 2025 campaign with 22 passing touchdowns and six interceptions.
Will Hammond gives Texas Tech another experienced quarterback behind Morton. Hammond appeared in eight games last season and completed 69-of-109 passes for 680 yards. He threw seven touchdowns with three interceptions while seeing meaningful action when Morton was unavailable.
Abilene Christian has already turned to John David Black and Tucker Parks at quarterback this season. Black handled most of the work against Lamar, completing 15-of-28 passes for 142 yards with two touchdowns and no interceptions. He connected with Romelo Boykin and Cristian Driver for ACU’s two scores.
Parks also saw action in the opener and completed 4-of-7 passes for 65 yards. He threw two interceptions, while Black finished the game without a turnover through the air. Stone Earle’s 2025 production is no longer the current quarterback story for an ACU offense now working with Black and Parks.

Wildcats Red Raiders Free Pick: Texas Tech -42.5
Here is my Wildcats Red Raiders free pick: Texas Tech is coming off a 12-win season, and Abilene Christian already stumbled in its 2026 opener. I’m willing to lay the huge number in Lubbock.
Texas Tech went 12-2 last season while averaging 39.4 points per game and allowing only 11.8.
The Red Raiders finished 7th nationally and won the Big 12 before losing to Oregon in the Orange Bowl.
Abilene Christian went 9-5 in 2025, but the Wildcats were only 3-5 on the road. They opened 2026 with a 21-14 loss at Lamar as a 7.5-point favorite. Ugly start.
Texas Tech’s combination of scoring punch and an elite 2025 defense gives the Red Raiders a real chance to separate quickly from an FCS opponent.
Additionally, Texas Tech enters 2026 ranked No. 12 and returns quarterback Behren Morton after he threw for 2,780 yards last season. The Red Raiders have the talent advantage everywhere.
Can Abilene Christian hang around for four quarters? Nope!
Laying 42.5 points always leaves little room for a late backdoor score, once backups enter. Texas Tech should create enough separation before that becomes an issue.
I’ll trust the Raiders to keep pressing and lay the big number at -42.5.
