The undefeated SMU Mustangs will host the #25 ranked Memphis Tigers on Saturday afternoon. Memphis is undefeated in the last six matchups in Dallas against SMU.
Memphis Tigers
The Tigers have had nearly three weeks off prior to this game due to some COVID complications on the team. The football program was forced to pause activities until last week after their duel with Arkansas State on September 5th.
Ryan Sheffield and company won their home opener 37-24 against the Red Wolves and will try to beat the Mustangs for the fourth consecutive year. Fifth-year senior Brady White is back under center for the Tigers this season and started off strong against Arkansas State. White completed 27 of 37 passes for 280 yards to go with four touchdowns and an interception in his 2020 debut.

Quindell Johnson has been the best Memphis player on defense thus far. Johnson leads the team in tackles with eight tackles on the year and seven of them being solo. The defense did surrender 424 yards in their game against the Arkansas State and they will need to tighten that up facing a much superior offense.
SMU Mustangs
SMU is rolling to start the season. They are 3-0 coming into their matchup with the Tigers but have lost the previous three games against Memphis.
Shane Buechele has been possibly the best quarterback in the country through three games. Buechele has completed 64 of 94 passes for 852 yards to go with seven touchdowns and two interceptions. The Mustangs offense has averaged over 550 yards a game in total and over 50 points on the board.
Ulysses Bentley IV has become one of the biggest threats in the country in 2020. Through three games, the redshirt freshman leads the nation in rushing with 380 yards and is tied for the FBS lead in rushing touchdowns with seven.
This will be the SMU’s first challenge on defense as they are facing one of the most high octane offenses in the country. They will try to have to stop the FBS leader in passing yards from last season and he comes into this game with another year of experience under his belt. The Mustangs have allowed an average of 22 points a game and a little less than 400 yards.
