The #20 ranked Texas Longhorns are taking on the unranked Colorado Buffaloes in the Alamo Bowl from the Alamodome on Tuesday, December 29th.
Texas Longhorns
The Longhorns have gotten hot, winning 4 of their last 5 coming into this game while boasting the #12 offense and #67 defense in the country. Second team All Big-Ten Quarterback Sam Ehlinger is entering the final game of his illustrious career after throwing for 2,406 yards this season along with 25 touchdowns and only five interceptions.
However, they will be playing without their defensive starters and captains who have all decided to opt-out in order to prepare for the NFL Draft early. Fortunately for Texas they have been an offensively explosive team all year managing to score 40+ in 5 of their 9 games and only were held under 20 once.
Colorado Buffaloes
The Buffaloes enter with more balance on both sides of the ball with the #57 ranked offense and the #54 ranked defense. Colorado started the year with an undefeated 4-0 record before suffering a humiliating 38-21 loss at home to Utah costing them a trip to the Pac-12 Championship.
Colorado joins Oregon as the only other Pac-12 team to accept a bowl game invitation. This is only the schools second bowl game since 2008 and will be seeking their first bowl win since 2004.
Their last trip was in 2016 to the Alamo Bowl as well where they were handled easily 38-8 by the Oklahoma State Cowboys. The Buffaloes will need their offense to step up to have any chance in this game to keep up with the Longhorns. Quarterback Sam Noyer enters with only 1,000 yards passing with 6 touchdowns to 5 interceptions.
NCAA Football Handicapping Trends

4* Free Alamo Bowl NCAA Betting Pick: Texas -9.5 (-110)
I like Texas as the favorite here and will lay the points with the Longhorns. Tom Herman is 3-0 in his bowl game career with Texas and will be motivated to keep the perfect record going as he was given a vote of confidence from the school after continuous speculation regarding his job security.
Furthermore, Sam Ehlinger is simply the best player on the field for this game and I’m expecting a big game out of the fourth year starter as he will want to end his career on a high note. This game could be close at times but in the end the Texas offense will be too much for the Colorado defense and they will pull away late at the end.
