Sunday Night Football Preview – NFL Football Betting – Dallas Cowboys vs. Philadelphia Eagles
Dallas Cowboys (6-1) vs. Philadelphia Eagles (3-4)
Sunday, November 4th — Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia — 8:15pm EST
Opening NFL betting line: Dallas -3 (46)
Lost in the madness of the tilt between the Patriots and Colts this season is Terrell Owens’ return to Philadelphia on Sunday Night Football. Despite Philadelphia’s woes all season, they have always brought the noise when it comes to playing Dallas. Philadelphia is 7-3 SU against Dallas, including two victories against them last year.
Dallas Offense vs. Philadelphia Defense
Dallas needs to take the crowd out of this game by running Marion Barber III and Julius Jones as much as possible. The Philadelphia rush defense ranks eighth in the league, giving up 90.4 yards per game but Marion Barber runs like a man possessed gaining 5.7 yards per carry. He will be well rested after coming off a bye week.
Philadelphia is mediocre against the pass, and will face Tony Romo who recently signed a contract extension and celebrated by dancing with Britney Spears. Not sure if the latter is a good thing or a bad thing, but he will have his way against a Philadelphia defense that can get blown up in pass coverage. Terrell Owens will draw too much attention from the defense, freeing up lanes for Jason Witten and Patrick Crayton to expose for scores. Dallas has the third best passing offense in the league, and the crowd in Philly will fail to rattle the calm Tony Romo.
The problem for Philly will be getting speed around the edges of the huge offensive line of Dallas. They simply have not been eating up teams in the backfield like you would expect from an Eagles defense. On top of that, they have only generated eight turnovers, which is second worst in the NFC.
Philadelphia Offense vs. Dallas Defense
Donavan McNabb is getting healthier as the season goes on, which can only mean good things for the Eagles. The problem is that his offensive line is still slow, old and getting overwhelmed by good defensive lines. And there is nobody fiercer up front than the DeMarcus Ware and the front-seven of Dallas.
Dallas only gives up 87.0 rushing yards and holds teams to a 208.9 passing yards on the game. Their biggest challenge will be holding Brian Westbrook, who is a deadly playmaker averaging 4.9 yards per carry. The gameplan will be to stop Westbrook, because the Eagles get grounded easily if Westbrook can’t get going. Dallas needs the speed to keep up with Westbrook and, at the very least, slow him down from being too much of a threat.
The New York Giants showed the perfect game plan against the Eagles, breaking through for twelve sacks. Dallas has the speed and size up front to make life a living hell for McNabb, who still lacks any speed or strength to get away from the pass rush. The Eagles play terribly when McNabb gets rattled and Dallas can get in his head and frustrate him all day long.
NFL Betting Trends
-Dallas is 5-2 ATS this season
-Dallas is 6-1 SU in its last 7 road games
-Total has gone UNDER in 8 of Philadelphia last 11 games
-Philadelphia is 4-2 ATS in their last six home games against Dallas
Final Verdict
The distance between the Cowboys and the rest of the teams in the NFC is massive. They are a deadly team on the ground and through the air. Dallas is also undefeated on the road and Philadelphia has dropped two of three matches in Lincoln Financial already. Expect Owens to have a big game in Philly as Dallas plays with confidence and urgency coming off their bye week. Philadelphia is a yo-yo team, and they won last weekend which only spells D-I-S-A-S-T-E-R this weekend against the NFC’s best team.
