NFL Football Betting – Browns at Cardinals
The Cleveland Browns (7-4 SU, 9-2 ATS), who have covered six games in a row, travel to Glendale, AZ (site of the Super Bowl) on Sunday to take on the Arizona Cardinals (5-6 SU, 6-4-1 ATS), who are hanging on to playoff hopes, in a game scheduled to start at 4:05 PM ET at University of Phoenix Stadium (grass). In the Top Sportsbooks NFL football betting odds, the Browns are listed at -1.5, with the total posted at 51.5 points.
Here are some NFL football betting trends as they relate to this matchup:
* CLEV is 6-0 ATS in its last six games
* CLEV has played ten of its 11 games OVER the total this year
* CLEV is 4-1 ATS on the road in 2007
* CLEV is 2-6 SU in its last eight road games
* ARIZ is 12-5-1 ATS in its last 18 games
* ARIZ has played four of its last five games OVER the total
* ARIZ has played seven of its 11 games OVER the total
* ARIZ has played 26 of its last 42 games OVER the total
When you face a team that has scored 60 points in the last seven games and averages 221 yards a game, and you give up 37 points and 374 yards to that team, your defense has some problems. That’s Arizona’s situation. Of course, the Cards gained 552 yards in that game with the Niners, and Kurt Warner, who turned the ball over four times, also passed for 484 yards. Maybe against Cleveland’s secondary, which has allowed 25 TD passes, Warner makes more first downs rather than mistakes. And maybe, just maybe, Edgerrin James, who has averaged 3.7 yards a carry but has been a workhorse for the ‘Zona offense, pumps that up a bit against this Browns team that surrenders 4.6 yards a clip on the ground.
Derek Anderson has had a fantastic season (58%, 2758 yards and 22 TD’s) because he has some great receivers to throw to (Braylon Edwards and Kellen Winslow combing for 117 catches) and rookie tackle Joe Thomas has really given him time to throw the football (just 10 sacks all year). Jamal Lewis had 134 rushing yards last week, but whatever he’s able to produce has to be considered a bonus. Only Cleveland’s last game, with Houston, has gone under the total. And Warner should get some time to throw to Larry Fitzgerald (75 catches for 1060 yards) and Anquan Boldin (6 TD’s), since the Browns only have 19 sacks. Cleveland’s injury problems on the defensive line, and now in the secondary have not helped them very much in that regard.
The third receivers on each team (Bryant Johnson and Joe Jurevicius) are capable possession guys. And the weather should cooperate. We’re going over the 51.5-point total, as listed in the Top Sportsbooks NFL football betting odds.
