AFC – Buffalo Bills Predictions
The New regime of Levy and Jauron are reshaping the roster in Buffalo, acquiring motivated players who fit their schemes, but there are big holes to fill, and in a tough division that includes playoff caliber teams its going to be tough to improve on their 7-9 record.
Miami Dolphins Predictions
Cam Cameron cleaned house during the offseason, and its easy to see this being a struggle of a season as the new coaches establish their systems and acquire “their” players. There is enough talent to be competitive but there are big question marks, especially at QB. Miami and the 5-11 record can’t be expected to contend for a division title this year. Sorry Fins Fan.
New England Patriots Predictions
As is usually the case in Foxboro the Pats are poised to make yet another championship run. They believe they have tbolstered the areas that most needed help – the WR’s, RB, LB and special teams. If injuries are on their side this team will once again challenge to be the best team in the AFC, and probably a 11-5 record isn’t out of their grasps.
New York Jets Predictions
It’s the second year behind the headset for Eric Mangini as he attempts to lead the Jets to the promised land in the AFC East. Tough matchups are up again this season though with the Patriots as always the favorites and an up and coming Bills and Dolphins teams will battle with the Jets for second in the division. The Jets aren’t quite there yet as they’re lacking to many weapons to be a force just yet, but if Pennington clicks with his wideouts and the running game actually gets going a 9-7 season is a possibility.
Baltimore Ravens Predictions
Guess what the 2007 version of the Ravens Defense is going to look like most of the ones in the past, and they will NOT sneak up on anyone. Ray Lewis will be a commanding figure at MLB calling all the defensive plays as usual. For Baltimore to once again win the AFC North division they’ll have to have Ray and his defense pushing around the Bengals and the Steelers, we think this will happen once again, and another Super Bowl run is immenent.
Cincinnati Bengals Predictions
The 2007 Cincinnati Bengals are a very tough team to make predictions for. Which way will they go? The team is good enough to win the AFC North, and host a playoff game or two, or bad enough to finish just ahead of the Browns for third. Marvin Lewis has got to be feeling the pressure. I say it all comes down to Carson Palmer’s arm, and yes, his arm is good enough to lead them to the promised land. But the defense has to get better, and is critical to their success, or another 8-8 season is on the horizon.
Cleveland Browns Predictions
The Browns have been acquiring and drafting some serious talent on the offenive side of the ball. Could this be their year? Highly unlikely. They are at least a year away from seriously competing in the formidable AFC North. Crennel has got to take the next step as the Coach of the Browns this year as well. He must adapt better on the fly during games than his track record is showing. Brady Quinn winning the qb battle at training camp wouldn’t be a bad thing either. IF the Browns get to 8-8 or 9-7 this year this should be viewed as an accomplishment.
Pittsburgh Steelers Predictions
In 2007 new head coach Mike Tomlin takes over for Bill Cowher as an unknown quantity. He was only a full fledged coordinator for one year. That sets up a lot of volatility for the Steelers in 2007. If Big Ben feels the pressure to make up for last year while playing for a coach who feels the pressure to impress right away, we could see anything from 6-10 to 13-3.
Houston Texans Predictions
I’m just going to come right out and say it. The Texans are probably not going to contend for a playoff spot this year. I sure went out on a limb didn’t I? I’ll give it to them though, the future is looking brighter for this expansion franchise. To have a chance in 2007 the Texans need to be competitive and will hope that Matt Schaub does better behind center than David Carr did. He needs to be as good as advertised in his 2 starts. The D just has to keep building, and there are some playmakers to lead them. 7 wins is a stretch.
Indianapolis Colts Predictions
The defending Super Bowl champs are back and primed to take another run at the Lombardy trophy. They lost a couple players due to free agency that may make an impact but the nucleus of this great team is still there and should be for a few more years. There are leaders aplenty on the Colts and with Manning, Dungy, and Vinatieri in the primes of their careers this team should once again win the AFC south and be taking the steps needed towards defending their title in 2007-08. The Colts have to be conidered a very serious contender and will have over 11 wins again.
Jacksonville Jaguars Predictions
A big season coming up for Coach Del Rio. Most think he has to make the playoffs to keep his job so we’ll see what happens on the coaching front. He’s got a playoff caliber defense in place, but the offense has so many question marks. If Leftwich can bounce back from injuries and a true #1 WR emerges, the offense with its 1-2-3 punch at RB (Taylor, G. Jones, Jones-Drew) might finally be carrying its weight.
Tennessee Titans Predictions
If wins were based on total yardage Tennessee would have gone 5-11 last year. You should probably think of them as that caliber a team. They can’t count on ALWAYS having the ball last in close games this year. It’s very hard to see Tennessee making any other run at .500 unless Vince Young makes dramatic strides at reading defenses. 6-10 is my call.
Denver Broncos Predictions
The Broncos finished 2006 with a sour taste in their mouths after narrowly missed out on the playoffs, but a restocked lineup and the arm of Jay Cutler could have them back in the postseason mix in the fall. Shanahan brings in Travis Henry at RB, and with a healthy year in this offense Javon Walker should be an even more explosive option. Add Graham at TE, and one of the best O-lines in the business and you can see easily why my money is on the Broncos to win the AFC West with a 10 win season.
Kansas City Chiefs Predictions
The Kansas City Chiefs hoping to improve on a decent season last year and a playoff loss to the Indianapolis Colts weren’t stagnant during a critical offseason, especially on defense. Coach Herm Edwards wants to create a solid mix of youth and experience to carry his club into the postseason for a second straight year. The Chiefs will have problems doing that this year though, as we don’t expect them to finish ahead of Denver or San Diego in the AFC west. Expect 9-7 at best.
Oakland Raiders Predictions
Despite having a really fantastic defense, the team was a league laughing stock last year. The offense set new standards for futility to say the least. The combo of a new coach and anew QB isn’t often a marriage made in heaven so we’ll se how the Raiders can improve this year. With that in mind its hard to see a dramatic turnaround so I’m predicting and 5-11 season, maybe, just maybe 6 wins.
San Diego Chargers Predictions
Everything gelled for the Chargers last year just as they ran into an amazingly soft schedule. What’s normaly a tough division became weak when Denver went through a QB change and KC dealt with tough times as well. Add it all up for 2007 and you get an overrated team that’s now dealing with a a completely overhauled coaching staff, it’ll be tougher this year for them but 11-5 is doable.

NFC – Atlanta Falcons Predictions
New coach and ex College Guru Bobby Petrino is now in charge of the enigma that is Michael Vick. Will he do any better? Only time will tell. The team’s success or failure almost exclusvely rides on his shoulders. Priority #1 is for Vick to find his wideouts in 2007, newcomer Joe Horn will try keep his career going as well. Can they both stay healthy? They’ll have to or another non playoff 7-9 or 6-10 season awaits.
Carolina Panthers Predictions
Any team lead by Julius Peppers and Steve Smith plus the rest of the talent on this team on both sides of the ball should be able to contend in the NFC. One problem though is the lack of depth on this team. The Panthers need a bounce back campaign from Delhomme plus the running game actually needs to be a blip on the radar this year as well. If these things happen the Panthers should finish with at least 10 wins and have a shot at the playoffs.
New Orleans Saints Predictions
In 2007 the Saints must now be mentioned among the NFL’s most elite teams. They have high caliber players at every offensive skill position and an aggressive and creative play caller in Sean Payton. For the Saints to take the next step and make it to the Super Bowl they’ll need a better performance from their defense. This could happen in 2007, if not, they’ll try to win with shootouts, and 12-4 or 11-5 are very attainable.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers Predictions
The addition of Garcia makes Tampa Bay a threat again. A team that was 29th in offense will jump up dramatically on that side of the ball. That’s enough to be competitive in the NFC conference. Tampa Bay is in the same boat as Carolina in terms of bouncing back from an offseason of up and down moves. At best though an 9-7 season awaits this young team.
St. Louis Rams Predictions
It’s hard to see what impact new head coach Linehan had last season. St. Louis is still great on offense, still bad on defense, still playing in a bad division, still led by a solid QB who takes too many sacks. We want to be clear here. We’re not saying ST. Louis was a playoff caliber team ok? You should think of them as a 6-10 caliber team with a grouchy QB who expects better from his teammates.
Seattle Seahawks Predictions
You can pretty much throw out the stats for 2006. Seattle suffered key injuries all season long, particularly at the running back and qb position. Thanks to facing one of the weakest schedules in the league, they were still able to win their division. If Seattle has its pieces in place they should be sitting at the top of your NFC power ratings. Nobody’s better in terms of across the board excellence. 11-5 this year for the Hawks at the worst, and that’s with a tougher schedule.
San Francisco 49ers Predictions
I think you’ve got to be very careful buying the hype about this team in 2007. The medai will talk about the leap from 4-12 to 7-9, the fact that San Fran swept Seattle, and the fact that Smith is improving as a combination that might lead to a shock the world campaign. Keep in mind Smith’s passer rating was just 74.8 last year, and he put up limited yardage. This is a 6-10 type team right now, in my opinion that needs to be reflected in your power ratings.
Arizona Cardinals Predictions
The big story here is Matt Leinart so we’ll start with him. He was seen as a budding star last season when he strung together some good games. He seemed most dangerous though against prevent defenses, or against soft defenses. I’ll give you this, for a rookie QB that’s ok. He’s on a career arc that’s better than David Carr at least. Asking a kid QB to win you games though is awful tough, the birds really need to upgrade on the defensive side of the ball after finishing 29th last year. Fix that and they’ll start winning, for now 8-8.
Dallas Cowboys Predictions
Exit the Tuna and Enter Jason Garrett and his Pro Bowl QB Tony Romo under the watchful eye of Wade Phillips. If Romo and the Dallas D play up to snuff there’s no question this team has the talent to make the playoffs. Yes folks, even without Parcells. The one thing that has to happen is Marion Barber has to be the main from day 1. This kid is a flat out STUD, and Julius Jones has to lose some touches. 10-6 is an easy target for the Boys in 07.
Philadelphia Eagles Predictions
The Eagles are a volatile environement. QB questions, distractions for the Coach, limited wide receivers, yet I still think they have the divisions best offense and the potential to make dramatic improvement against the run. The Eagles will be favored to win the NFC East for the sixth time in seven years. If health is not an issue, the Super Bowl is in the question as is a 10+ win season.
Washington Redskins Predictions
In 2005 the Skins got a look at Jason Campbell, the 25th overall pick in the 2005 draft, and they liked what they saw. Big seasons out of Campbell and Portis could help get the club back in the hunt in the NFC East, but the defense must get back to the 04 and 05 standards for this group to reach the postseason and better my predicted 7-9 finish.
New York Giants Predictions
Manning got blamed for everything under the sun last year, while a defense ranked 25th in the league kept taking the team down the tubes. Now, we don’t want to suggest that Manning had a great season especially with his 77.0 QB rating and the 18 picks, but they were scoring points anyways. It’s truly hard to see how things will get better this year though. Add it all up and get a team that looks to have turned on the head coach, with an offense that lost their best weapon (Tiki) plus an overrated defense. How can you win with that? You can’t! 9-7 at best.
Chicago Bears Predictions
Despite the drama going on with the now released Tank Johnson and franchise player Lance Briggs the Chicago Bears return from their super bowl losing season largely intact. Benson is the lone new starter on the offensive side of the ball, the D is hoping Lance Briggs comes to camp. Only one of the last 6 super bowl losers has even qualified for the playoffs the following season, so the pressure is on Lovie’s Bears. Good thing for them the NFC North is horrible and the Bears should be just fine.
Green Bay Packers Predictions
Brett Favre returns for yet another kick at the can, but my question is does he have the supporting cast this year to make a serious run at the playoffs? We’ll know shortly. In the NFC North really anything is possible. That is except the Bears losing their grip on first place. With some new college studs at the skill positions and an offensive line that meshed last year and has a year under their belts at least Favre should get the offense moving. The ever improving defense just has to keep pace, and they should. A nine win season is on the horizon. But are the playoffs?
Minnesota Vikings Predictions
Between their inexperience at QB and lack of playmakers out wide, Minni will be 1 dimensional no matter how potentially dominant its ground game is. They have the defense to contend, and both the division and the conference are weak enough for a sleeper to emerge, but even with even with AP toting the rock, the Vikings still may not have the horses on a fence to stay above water. So it’s another 9-7 season for the Vikings.
Detroit Lions Predictions
Detroit spent the offseason firing assistant coaches. Rod Marinelli was new, so it was to early to fire him. GM Millen apparently has compromising pictures of his owner, so he’s able to keep his job??!! Last years season was supposed to be the season where they were better. Well with Martz on board its coming slowly, I truly believe that now. NOT. Kitna managed just a 79.9 passer rating and threw 22 INT’s, how’s that going to make you better? At least Martz has a proven track record of generating offense. Maybe Calvin Wilson is the answer. At least the Lions are in the NFC UnpredictableNorth. 9-7 at best for the Lions this year though.
