NBA: All-Star Saturday Night
NBA All-Star Weekend is a basketball fan’s dream and Sportsbook.com has the latest odds for the two most popular Saturday night events, the Slam Dunk and the Three-Point Shootout.
Slam Dunk Contest
Dwight Howard (2:1): Big men usually get the short end of the stick in this contest as evidenced by Howard losing last year even after his breathtaking slam when he put a sticker of himself 12-feet up on the backboard. People are still talking about that move and Howard is sure to get some sympathy from the judges this year.
Gerald Green (11:4): The defending champion, Green, is almost a professional ‘slam-dunker’ at this point as he barely gets off the pine for the Minnesota Timberwolves. Still, this is Green’s chance at the national spotlight again and he plans to make the most of it.
Rudy Gay (3:1): Gay is known as a silky smooth scorer from Memphis who averages 20 point per game, but the second year player from Connecticut can also throw it down with authority. Gay is even going so far as to asking fans to send him their dunk ideas.
Jamario Moon (3:1): Moon may be the least known of all the four contestants, but the same could have been said about Gerald Green last year. Moon is a 6’8” rookie from Toronto who is averaging eight points and six rebounds per game in just over 28 minutes of action.
Three-Point Shootout
Peja Stojakovic (2:1): Stojakovic won this title in consecutive years in 2002 and 2003, and he would like another win as a member of the hometown Hornets. Stojakovic did not compete in this event for the last two years, but he is hitting 47.2% of his “threes” this year and 40.5% for his career.
Steve Nash (3:1): Nash is the master of dishing the basketball, but he can also shoot the rock with the best of them. Nash is a ‘lights-out’ 47% from three-point land this year and 42.9% for his career.
Kobe Bryant (3:1): Bryant has won a lot of awards in his career, and he would like to notch a three-point win on his belt. Bryant has hit 45.8% of his three-pointers this season, very close to his career mark of 45.3%.
Jason Kapono (7:2): Kapono is the defending champion as he tied Mark Price’s record of 24 point in the final round. Kapono has made an amazing 51% of his three-point attempts this year and 46.7% for his career.
Richard Hamilton (11:2): Detroit’s Hamilton is known more as a scorer with his post-up moves and ability to hit the mid-range jumper. However, Hamilton is on fire from three-point land this year at 46%, way above his career average of 34.3%.
Daniel Gibson (6:1): Gibson’s rookie three-point percentage of 41.9 helped get Cleveland into the NBA Finals last year. This season, he has done even better from ‘way downtown’ at 46.7%.
