The early reports said that both Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur weren’t going to play last night in the Jazz’s win over the 110 to 101 win over the Miami Heat. Although I believe that the point spread was Jazz – 9.5 in that game, and, therefore, the Jazz didn’t cover, my belief was that without Okur and/or Boozer, the Jazz had no chance of covering at all.
Wouldn’t you know it? The Boozeman and Okur did play. Boozer in fact was the high scorer in last night’s game. Not cool, Becky. It could have been a disaster. So, always pay attention right before tip-off to everything you can get your hands on.
Okay, now to tonight’s game. This is a straight-up trend game:
The Utah Jazz are 9 and 20 against the spread in their last 29 road games.
The Sacramento Kings are 6 and 2 against the spread in their last 8 games.
The Sacramento Kings are 8 and 1 against the spread at home so far this year.
The line is low enough to tempt me to go with the Jazz. They are, without a doubt, a much better team than the Kings. The Jazz have the better point-guard, power forward, center, and coach. No offense, but my love for Jerry Sloan knows no bounds!
But, I can’t go with the Jazz. The above trends are too powerful for the Kings. What happens with a team like the Kings is that they, unlike most NBA teams, use their home-court advantage to its full effect. 8 and 1 at home against the spread is a terrific record.
So far this year, Sacramento has all ready held their home-court advantage versus the Jazz. They beat the Jazz by four points against a spread of + 3.5. I suspect that Sacramento may beat the Jazz again in this one.
The NBA line is Sacramento Kings + 3 against the spread at home against the Utah Jazz.
NBA Free Pick: I like the Kings to win this one outright.
They are excellent against the spread at home and Utah is a terrible road team. This comes down to a classic battle between two small market teams. I’m taking the Kings.
