NCAA Football Betting – Air Force at Notre Dame
ABOUT AIR FORCE:
The Good News — Running back Chad Hall ran for 275 yards against Army, leading a Falcon attack that had 437 rushing yards on the day. Air Force, which is fourth in the nation in rushing, averaging 5.1 yards a carry, has already qualified for a bowl game.
The Bad News — Air Force wanted to have a more varied offense this season, but after some difficulty passing the football, went back to more of an option attack. While the team ranks 118th in passing yards, Quarterback Shaun Carney does stand 46th in the nation in passing efficiency.
AIR FORCE TRENDS:
* AF has covered its last five games
* AF has covered four of its last five road games
* AF has won two of its last seven road games SU
* AF has played six of its last nine games UNDER the total
* AF has played nine OVERS in its last 13 road games
* AF has covered eight of its last 13 games as a road dog
ABOUT NOTRE DAME:
The Good News — Well, the Irish actually tallied 235 rushing yards against Navy, managing to climb out of last place in the NCAA rankings in that category (now just above Duke). And because they played the Midshipmen last week, they have already spent previous and contiguous time preparing for an option attack.
The Bad News — The psychological effect of losing to Navy for the first time in 44 years is considerable. And the boo birds are really getting on Charlie Weis’ case, since he passed up a 41-yard field goal attempt to win the game in the final minutes in favor of going for the first down on 4th and eight. Notre Dame is still the worst team in the country at protecting the quarterback (43 sacks allowed) and is ranked dead last in total offense, with 208.4 yards a game.
NOTRE DAME TRENDS:
* ND has won just one of its last 11 games SU
* ND is 3-8 ATS in its last 11 games
* ND has played seven of its nine games UNDER the total this year
* ND is 3-11 ATS in its last 14 home games
* ND is 7-17-1 ATS in its last 25 overall
WHO: Air Force Falcons (7-3 SU, 7-2 ATS) at Notre Dame Fighting Irish (1-8 SU, 3-6 ATS)
WHEN & WHERE: Saturday, 2:30 PM ET, Notre Dame Stadium (grass), South Bend, IN (Televised by NBC)
BETUS COLLEGE FOOTBALL BETTING LINE: Air Force -3 (Total 44)
LAST POINTSPREAD RESULT: Air Force won 30-10 against Army, covering as a 17-point home favorite. Notre Dame played another service academy – Navy – and lost 46-44 in triple overtime as a 3.5-point home favorite, suffering its first defeat to the Midshipmen since 1963.
HEAD-TO-HEAD college football betting trends:
* ND has won four of the last five meetings SU
* The dog has covered three of the last four meetings
* The road team has covered the last five meetings
* ND has a 22-5 SU edge in the entire series
LAST MEETING: Notre Dame, as an 10.5-point road favorite, won by a 39-17 score in Colorado Springs last year. In that game, the Irish defense held Air Force to just 3.3 yards a carry.

THE BOTTOM LINE: While it is true that Notre Dame can keep its basic defensive game plan in place after playing against the option last week, it must be noted that Air Force does pass the ball better than Navy and has a much better defense than that Midshipmen contingent, which gave up 59 to Delaware the week before and 44 to a rather non-offensive Irish team. Yards will be harder to come by for Weis, the offensive “guru,” and he incurred the wrath of quite a few alumni with his nonchalance about the loss to Navy. Air Force, the 3-point favorite in the Top Sportsbooks college football betting odds, gets revenge over a Notre Dame squad that is down in the dumps, and doesn’t have Brady Quinn as it did in last year’s meeting.
