Saturday, January 22nd. the Sacramento Kings play the Milwaukee Bucks for the first time this season. The Kings have been off since Wednesday when they lost 133-131 to the Pistons while the Bucks got an important 94-90 victory versus the Bulls on Friday.
Last season, the teams played twice with the Bucks winning both contests. The Bucks hold the all-time record having bested the Raptors in 92 of their 150 matches
Sacramento Kings
It’s a road-heavy schedule for the Kings over the next 19 games. It starts with this match in Milwaukee and continues with the next four games versus the Celtics, Hawks, 76ers, and Knicks. That’s followed by four of five at home with the Warriors hosting them in the second of that next five-game stint.
Then they’re back on the road to play eight of nine facing the Eastern trio of the Wizards, Nets, and Bulls, return home to host Denver then play another five on the road, this time versus the West in a group that features a trio of lower-seeded teams (Thunder, Pelicans, Spurs).
In the past, Sacramento might be amped for this schedule segment because the West has typically been the dominant conference but aside from the Hawks most of these Eastern clubs will be tough opponents and even Atlanta are playing better lately.
In fact, the easiest of these road games comes in the latter segment when they play a trio of lower-tier Western clubs. All this to say these next 20 games should define the Kings direction to end the season. Notably, just prior to the second trip East the trade deadline occurs (February 10th) so that could also have an impact.
The biggest question mark is whether the Kings will be invested in moving Buddy Hield or Marvin Bagley who were the main players earmarked to trade prior to season start. Could they elect to downsize the backcourt by moving De’Aaron Fox and how invested are they in making a deal with the 76ers to nab Ben Simmons?
Tyrese Haliburton has exited quarantine and is upgraded to questionable for Saturday.
Milwaukee Bucks
With Jrue Holiday back the Bucks should be prepared to make another run up the standings. In his return, Holiday checked in as a reserve to ease him back into the rotation playing just shy of 22 minutes, registering nine points, five rebounds, and four assists.
They also captured the victory facing a severely shorthanded Grizzlies squad and got more luck from the Basketball Gods on Friday in the front side of their back-to-back against the Bulls who were missing Zach LaVine, Lonzo Ball, and others.
The battle of two top East teams had everything including ejections (Grayson Allen on a flagrant 2 foul), scrappy defense, and 16 lead changes. The only thing missing was hot shooting. Chicago shot 36.5% from the field and 18.4% from the perimeter while the Bucks shot 38.6% and 19.4% from the field and perimeter.
As per usual, Giannis Antetokounmpo led the way producing 30 points, 12 rebounds, three assists, a steal, and two blocks and was just one of three Bucks to deliver a double-double effort. Khris Middleton (16 points, 11 rebounds plus six assists) and Bobby Portis (12 points, 13 rebounds) were the other two.
Holiday entered as a reserve once again offering 13 points, four rebounds and two assists in 27 minutes.
Brook Lopez (back) is the only Bucks player on the injury list and is out indefinitely.
NBA Betting Trends:
- The Kings are 3-6 ATS in their last 9 games.
- The Bucks are 2-5 ATS in their last 7 games.
- The total has gone UNDER in 6 of Milwaukee’s last 8 games.
Free Sacramento Kings vs. Milwaukee Bucks NBA Prediction
Although the Kings have a significant rest advantage and will try to push the pace, the Bucks are one of the better defensive teams particularly at slowing teams in transition, and are tough to get past in the paint.
That said, the Kings will be amped up to face the defending champions and I think keep the score closer than the 9.5 point spread.
