Texas was one of the biggest disappointments from the first week of action as it is clear this group is still a long way from being a threat in the B12, let alone nationally.
They are literally coming home with their tail tucked between their legs and you have to wonder if they might fold should rice put up a valiant fight.
That might be too much to expect from an in-state team that is getting the 6th or 7th best talent in the state. Even that might be a little high.
The Owls are a solid program out of Conference USA and they beat up on Wagner last week, scoring 50 points and covering a 30 point spread. The output was promising as they replace their QB.
That replacement is Driphus Jackson, who is a dual threat and contributed to a ground game that cranked out 401 yards. You have to consider the competition but the Owls want to run the ball, a lot.
On the road at Texas it will be interesting to see if they can have even half of the success they did. If they can and they play a little defense this one could be pretty close.
Rice has beat Texas 21 times in football but the most recent was back in 1994. Their record against UT 21-71-1.
I thought coming into the season the Longhorns might surprise some folks, but it might be in a negative way. The program had a chance to turn some heads at Notre Dame last week but instead they had people running for the toilet.
The Irish may very well turn out to be a playoff team but that doesn’t change the fact that Texas was dominated. They had only 163 total yards of offense and completed just 8 passes. It is definitely back to the drawing board.
The hope that the defense might save the day looks like a pipe dream too as Notre Dame was able to do whatever it wanted on the ground and through the air. The Irish may be more than functional but they are not expected to be an elite offensive unit.
Texas has a lot to prove to their fans and themselves heading into this first home game.

Free Week 2 NCAA Football Prediction
Can you imagine what the spread of this game would have been if it had been played ahead of the Notre Dame fiasco. Until I see it I am not buying that Texas can dominate anyone. Plus Rice might smell blood in the water.
