It’s the most wonderful time of year, the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
This is a rematch of the 2018 Western Conference Finals where the Vegas stalled the Jets’ Stanley Cup aspirations in the Golden Knights inaugural season. Both teams failed to qualify for the post season last year and are starving for playoff success.
This campaign saw the Golden Knights sweep the season series 3-0 with their last meeting coming back in December.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets posted a 46-33-3 record overall with a 20-20-1 tally away from home this season.
Winnipeg rode Hellebuyck for 13 straight starts prior to the final game of the season in order to make the playoffs this year. The defense tightened up down the stretch for Winnipeg as they allowed 13 goals in their final 7 outings
Offense
The Jets finished the regular season with a pretty mediocre 21st ranked offense which averaged 3.00 goals scored per game. On the man advantage they posted similar stats where they finished with a 23rd ranked power play which produced a 19.3% success rate.
They were led by eight players who scored into the double-digits as Mark Scheifele led the way with 42 lamp lighters.
In terms of points, Kyle Connor was tops with 80 in 82 games this season.

Defense
On the defensive side of things, Winnipeg finished 10th in that department after allowing an average of 2.73 goals against per contest. When it comes to special teams in their own end, the numbers were way better than their power play. A 7th best penalty kill during the regular season finished with a 82.4% kill rate.
They also generated offense from the back end thanks to the play of Josh Morrissey’s 76 points in 78 games this season.
Goaltending
Connor Hellebuyck was an absolute workhorse for the Jets once again. He started a league-high 64 games and was one of just two goalies with over 1,800 saves this year.
Hellebuyck has allowed just 7 goals over this last 5 games where he allowed 1 or zero goals against in three of those outings. In his last 14 straight, he allowed three or fewer goals against.
The starter posted a 31-25-2 record to go with a 2.49 goals against average and a solid .920 save percentage in this campaign.
Vegas Golden Knights
Their 51 wins matched a franchise record which was set in their first season but they did put up a new club record for points at 111 this year.
Vegas went 5-0-3 over their most recent eight outings as they clinched the top spot in the Western Conference following back-to-back wins over Seattle in the last two games of the season. Goaltender Laurent Brossoit held the Kraken to just a single goal in each of those to final games.
At home, the Golden Knights posted a 25-15-1 tally through 41 tries on T-Mobile ice.
Offense
Up front, they have the 14th best offense following the regular season with an average of 3.26 goals scored per game. On the power play, they produced at a 20.3% success rate and found them slotting in at 18th best in the league. They would go on to score 20 goals in their final seven games which included scoring four or more in four of those contests.
Vegas scored by committee with 12 players finding the net at least 10 times this season but didn’t have a 30-goal scorer.
Overall, Jonathan Marchessault led the team in goals with 28 tucks while Jack Eichel was tops in points for the squad with 66 points in 67 games.
They’ll get a boost up front as Captain Mark Stone has been confirmed to play in game 1 after going down with a back injury on January 12th.
Defense
With an 11th best defense, Vegas allowed an average of 2.74 goals against per game and found themselves with a 19th ranked penalty kill that finished the regular season with a 77.4% success rate.
Goaltending
In April, the goaltenders for Vegas allowed two or fewer in five of their seven outings.
Brossoit was named the starter ahead of Game 1 after he went 7-0-3 with a 2.17 GAA and a .927 save percentage on the year. He allowed 2 or fewer goals against in four of his five final games.
Winnipeg Jets vs. Vegas Golden Knights Betting Trends
- Golden Knights are 11-1 in their last 12 when their opponent scores 2 goals or less in their previous game.
- Over is 6-2 in Golden Knights last 8 home games.
- Home team is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
- Favorite is 4-1 in the last 5 meetings.
Free Winnipeg Jets vs. Vegas Golden Knights NHL Prediction
Vegas has used four different goaltenders on the year and are electing to go with Brossoit as their starter. He’s made just a single appearance in the postseason which came back in 2017 with the Oilers as he made just 6 saves on 8 shots in less than 30 minutes of play.
I feel there a still big question marks in net for the Golden Knights with Brossoit steering the ship from the crease compared to the veteran presence of Hellebuyck at the other end.
That being said, the addition of Mark Stone is huge for Vegas offensively and they will test Hellebuyck plenty.
With the line set at 5.5, I think that’s an easy cover no matter who wins this contest.
