The Winnipeg Jets are coming off a revenge win, beating the Panthers and former coach Paul Maurice 5-2 on Tuesday. That’s now five wins in the last six games for the first place Jets.
The St. Louis Blues also come into Thursday’s game off a win, getting a surprising 7-4 victory over the Islanders on Tuesday to snap a four game losing streak. Despite these two teams trending in opposite directions, oddsmakers have close -115 / -105 odds for this meeting.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets do have a stinker of a loss over the last two weeks, falling 4-1 to last place Columbus at home last Friday coming up short as -201 favorites. Otherwise the Jets have won five of six though, scoring 5+ goals in each of those victories.
The man leading the charge for Winnipeg’s recent offensive surge is Kyle Connor, whose 10 points over the past two weeks are the eighth most in the NHL. Connor just had two goals and an assist in the win over Florida and has five points his last two games.
Connor is getting some help, as Blake Wheeler scored a hat trick to lead a 5-0 win over Colorado on November 29th.
The 5-0 win over the Avalanche was the third SO of the season for Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck. One of his other ones came October 24th against these Blues when Hellebuyck turned away 25 shots in a 4-0 Winnipeg win.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues have gotten back to their winning ways, and this is a team that can string together victories as evidenced by ripping off seven in a row from November 10th-19th. The only problem with that is the Blues going just 2-6 since that streak.
St. Louis’ win on Tuesday was kind of shocking as it came on the second leg of the back to back in New York following a 6-4 loss to the Rangers on Monday. There wasn’t a whole lot pointing at the Blues +168 in that win, kind of like how they don’t seem to have much of a chance Thursday at -105 even at home.
The big reason the Blues are a tough play in this matchup is because Jordan Binnington has been struggling in net. Thomas Greiss started Tuesday’s win playing on the back to back, but Binnington has a 6.12 GAA in three starts this month.
