The Winnipeg Jets travel to Dallas to play the Stars in a game that might have a wild card spot implication when we get into March. However, it is unlikely that it will have implications beyond that.
The Jets are holding their own in the Western Conference thanks largely to the strong play of Connor Hellebuyck. Hellebuyck is greatly improved from his uneven play last season. And has proven himself to to be a strong forward. So much so, you have to wonder where the Jets would be without him?

.As noted, it’s been Connor Hellebuyck holding the fort most nights for Winnipeg, and sure, you can ride a hot goalie all the way to the playoffs, but he’s not going to win every game.
At forward the Jets rely on the top line of Mark Scheifele, Nikolaj Ehlers and Patrik Laine for the bulk of their offensive firepower.
Their defense has been wanting this year, both in actual defense and scoring from the blue line.

Dallas Stars
Dallas has no real outstanding offensive stars, aside from Tyler Seguin, but they make up for that with competent goal scoring depth across three lines.
In goal, Ben Bishop’s play definitely improved of late, turning away some critical late game goal attempts and holding his own in overtime.
Dallas has been successfully relying on multiple lines contributing, and keeping teams on their heels, with Bishop keeping them in the game when it counts.

You have to wonder if Hellebuyck can handle the amount of firepower Dallas will pour on net. Unless the Jet’s defense finally finds another gear and steps up it could be a long night for Winnipeg’s goalie.
The flip side of that equation is the Stars defense are no great shakes themselves, and while Bishop’s play is greatly improved, you have to give the edge to Winnipeg in the net minding department.
