Winnipeg is letting their grip on the postseason slip away after losses in 4 of their last 5 games. The defeat to Chicago on Sunday night helped the Blackhawks pull within a tie of the Jets in the Central.
Carolina isn’t exactly tearing things up heading into Tuesday’s meeting however with losses in 3 of their last 4 outings. The Canes offense has virtually disappeared over the last two weeks.

This game comes down to both teams having value – or perhaps more accurately a lack of. The ‘Canes seem way too high priced at -175, but the Jets haven’t done much lately to justify earning a +145 win either.
Winnipeg Jets
Winnipeg’s 2-5 thumping from Chicago on Sunday night was on the road which gives it some justification. The Blackhawks were on 0 days rest though and still ran up, around, and through the Jets defense.
Not scoring and also not being able to stop the opponent has been the Jets theme over the last 5 games. Winnipeg has been held to 2 goals or less in 3 of their last 5, but have also given up at least 5 scores in three of those games.
Winnipeg swapped Blake Wheeler to the top line in place of Mark Scheifele on Sunday to try and garner some offense but it didn’t work with just 2 goals against Chicago. Defense should be more of a concern though with 12 goals surrendered the last two.
Connor Hellebuyck will give it another go as the probable starter on Tuesday. He’s been an absolute sieve with 9 goals allowed the last two starts on just 44 total shots faced.
Carolina Hurricanes
Could facing the struggling Hellebuyck be what Carolina’s offense needs to get back on track. The Canes have played the defense to get wins as of late, it’s just that their skaters have pulled a winter hibernation.
The Carolina offense has been held to 2 goals or less in 5 straight games. The defense over the last six though has pitched two shutouts, held one opponent to 1 score, and gave up two goals to another.
Carolina should be able to limit Winnipeg on Tuesday as the Jets also play on Wednesday before heading to the all-star break. With Hellebuyck having no confidence right now, the Hurricanes offense could also have a rare strong showing.
The Hurricanes can go with either Petr Mrazek or James Reimer in net on Tuesday. Both have a SO in their last three starts and Reimer has just 3 goals allowed over his last three outings.
