A battle of the second place Winnipeg Jets and the sixth place Calgary Flames at the Scotiabank Saddledome for this showdown of a potential first round match up in the playoffs.
Winnipeg Jets
The Winnipeg Jets are averaging three goals a game and are on an upswing, now finally settling into their new line ups. Since sending Patsyuk to the Blue Jackets, Nikolaj Ehlers has been on a tear with a plus-12 in 32 games (Plus-minus is a goal differential stat for individual players.

I’ve been watching the Jets since the big trade. they are a fast team that can score a lot of goals any night of the week. They are easily in the top ten powerhouse teams in the NHL, and may even be a Conference Contender when it’s all said and done. They have scored nine goals in the past two games…
That’s Ridiculous and a sign that things are gelling early for the Jets. I would be careful with this team in the next few weeks. Burnout could be a factor leading into the playoffs only because they move at such a astounding pace.
Calgary Flames
The Calgary Flames have been … meh. If it weren’t for Mark Scheifele and his 39 points, and the pseudo-motivation brought to the bench by Old Man Sutter, this team might be lingering well below the playoff line in the North. But for some reason, in true Flames fashion, they are hanging around, playing hockey like the sober creep by the bar at 2 am looking for a vulnerable victim (and they got caught twice with their pants down against Ottawa – a shameful two losses).
They are averaging only 2.5 goals a game and can’t get their two big stars Sean Monahan and Johnny Gaudreau to shoot on target. This team looks like sellers in the upcoming trade deadline.
Personal Feeling
This is the beginning of a three game homestead against the Jets and Calgary’s chance to prove they are the formidable Flames of the first quarter of the season. If the Jets play their way, and keep the Flames scrambling, this should be an easy three notches on the Brownies Sash for the boys from the slurpee capital of Canada… but wait.
You can’t over look the Flames at home. They are 8-5-1 and tend to put a whooping on teams who roll through the Saddledome, and 14-4-0 all time versus the Jets at home.
