What is up everyone it’s your boy Lavoie here with this pick on the pond tomorrow night in beautiful Vancouver B.C. In this one we see the Capitals come to town at the end of their west coast trip to take on the Canucks.
Last night they lost in overtime to the Oilers. A controversial non-call lead to Oshie tying it up with 0.8 seconds left on the clock.
The play before hand was Ovechkin blatantly hooking Hyman to save a breakaway on an empty net that went either missed or ignored. As you could imagine Twitter wasn’t haven’t it.
Nevertheless they split their games in Alberta but have scored 8 goals in those games and both were decided by a margin of one. What was impressive in the first period of the Oilers game was the play Samsonov.
Dude stood on his head and fought off an Oilers attack that put a boat load of pucks on net early on. So with all that in mind let’s dig in further and see what’s what.
Washington Capitals
The Caps are still scoring at a rate of 3.24 goals per game and are around the middle of the pack with shots on goal per game.

Despite goaltending being an issue this season they still rank 10th in league at goals allowed per game. Perhaps that could be due to only allowing 29 shots on goal per game which is good for 5th in the league average list.
I am not sure if the Capitals will be huge buyers at the deadline to get a goalie. Giving up a bunch of assets with numbers like that doesn’t make a whole lot of sense from a managerial standpoint.
Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks are still having one of the most puzzling evaluations for me as an analyst. I couldn’t predict with any certainty what these guys are going to do at the deadline.
As we have talked about before JT Miller and Brock Boeser have both been floated out there in the trade rumour mill. They tried a soft re tool on the fly and it has not quite worked out.
With that being said they still have a plethora of young talent and currently have been playing decent. They are 8-2-0 in their last ten games and winners of three straight.

Thatcher Demko is getting the nod in this one and he is having an incredible season. No goalie in the league cannot be solved by Ovechkin and company but he will certainly make life tough for Washington tonight.
This line is a tough one too evaluate just like the Canucks season. But with the Caps playing 3 games in 5 nights all on the road in the Pacific North West and starting their backup Vanecek, I am going to take the Canucks on the Puckline tonight.
