Game on ended in an overtime. Game two ended in double overtime. Each of the two teams, Washington Capitals and Toronto Maple Leafs, took a game in D.C. and now the series heads to Toronto for games three and four.
This series hasn’t gone as easy for the Washington Capitals as many thought it would.
In both games, the Maple Leafs got the best of Washington early in the game and it took a lot of effort for the Capitals to force both games to overtime.
Alex Ovechkin got on the board in game two, scoring a power play goal early in the second period. John Carlson followed up with another power play goal later in the second.
A Nicklas Backstrom goal in the 3rd forced overtime, but it wasn’t enough as the Capitals couldn’t score once the game went to sudden death.
Braden Holtby continues to be a monster in goal. He stopped 47 shots on 51 attempts, ended with a .922 save percentage.
Toronto Maple Leafs
The young Toronto Maple Leafs offense had a wonderful game against a very good Capitals defense. The Leafs got four goals on Braden Holtby, something that is tough to do.
Kasperi Kapanen was the hero offensively for Toronto. He had two goals, including the game winner in double overtime. He had four shots in the game and generated a great deal of offense.
Rookie Auston Matthews has yet to find the back of the net, taking four shots but not really connecting on any great chances.
Goaltender Frederik Andersen was brilliant, stopping 47 of Washington’s 50 shots in game two.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Washington is 10-3 SU in the last 13 games
- The UNDER is 4-2 in Toronto’s last six games
Free Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Washington Capitals NHL Playoff Prediction:
With the series shifting to Toronto, expect the Maple Leafs to be fired up early playing in front of its own fans. However, I think Washington will be ready and wanting to end a game in regulation. Capitals get the W in this one.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Toronto ATS
Toronto has covered the spread in both games this series and it should do the same in game three. Considering how well this team has played, don’t be surprised if it covers the spread and wins the game.
