After a long offseason/preseason we finally have the NHL returning for the 2019/20 season. The second game on this 4 game slate is the Capitals traveling to the midwest to play the defending champ St Louis Blues.

The Capitals were solid in the regular season last year, but will be looking for revenge this year after a shocking game 7 loss to the up and coming Carolina Hurricanes.

They return most of their core who is ageing, but has not shown any signs of falling off just yet. This team is experienced all around, and will know how to deal with the crazy opening night atmosphere they are walking into.

He may not be at his best, but you feel like if this Capitals team has a deep run in the playoffs it will be because he has found his best form once again.

St Louis Blues

The Blues shocked just about everyone by winning the Stanley Cup last year and it was not because this team was not good enough to win it.

The problem was the Blues had not won Lord Stanley’s Cup once in their history and even in the finals many favored the more experienced Bruins squad. It will be interesting now what the Blues can do as champions now that teams will be gunning for them.

Jordan Binnington gets the start here and you can pretty much pinpoint the exact moment this Blue’s 18-19 season turned around.

That moment was Binnington’s first start as the team’s unquestioned starter against the Flyers which Binnington went on to shutout in a 3-0 win.

After that he went on to post 24 wins with a 1.91 goals against average and an outstanding .926 save percentage.

Don’t expect much to change for Binnington as this team goes for a repeat.
