The Capitals have been great this month. The team is 5-1-1 and has won each of its last five, including a 4-2 win over the Islanders.
Meanwhile, Carolina is 3-3-1 this month and coming off a crazy 8-6 win over the Vancouver Canucks. It’s been a disappoint campaign for the Hurricanes so far but the team is showing signs of improvement on the offensive end and looking to get on some kind of a winning streak.
The Metropolitan Division is an extremely tight race. This is clear when you see that the Caps are 18-7-3 but sitting in 5th place in the division. The Caps will look to win a 6th straight game and close the gap in the best division in the NHL.
Captain Alex Ovechkin is having another fantastic season. He leads the team in goals (13) while season his lowest average time on ice of his career (18:39). He’s had some good help on offense this year.
Marcus Johansson’s 22 points (12G, 10A) lead the Caps and he has three goals and three assists in his last five games.
The defense has been rock solid. The Caps rank 3rd in the NHL in goals against (61) and haven’t given up more than three goals in a game this month.
Every game is important for Washington, considering how tough the Metropolitan Division is this year. However, this game against the Canes should be a pretty straightforward win for the Caps as long as the defense holds up.
The top five of the Metropolitan Division are neck and neck. Carolina, in 6th place, are much further back. The Canes’ 30 points on the season puts them nine back of the Capitals, and the team is having a hard time stringing wins together to gain ground.
The 17th ranked offense isn’t getting the job done. A lack of star power is limiting this team and making goal scoring a tough task.
Victor Rask and Jeff Skinner have been the offensive bright spots for the Canes. Rask has 10 goals and 14 assists, while Skinner has 11 goals and 14 assists on the year.
The defense hasn’t been amazing either. Ranked 14th in the NHL in goals against, the Canes have good nights and bad. In two of the last four games, Carolina has given up six goals.
If Carolina gets down a couple of goals against Washington, this game will be out of reach. The lack of star power on Carolina’s lines won’t stack up against an awesome Capitals team.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Carolina has won 7 in a row at home
- The OVER is 3-2-0 in Carolina’s last five games
Free Washington Capitals vs. Carolina Hurricanes NHL Hockey Prediction:
In a Metro Division matchup, the Capitals have the definite edge over the Hurricanes. The offense is better, the defense is infinitely better, and Washington is a great road team. This should be a W for the Capitals.
