The line is a bit late coming out for the Vegas at St. Louis matchup for Saturday night mostly because the goaltender situation is unknown. The Golden Knights won this matchup 5-4 on Friday night.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas had the best 1-2 punch in net in the league with Fleury and Robin Lehner. Fleury played a full game on Friday night, and Lehner has been out since February 7th with an upper body injury.
Lehner is on a conditioning loan to the AHL until he gets back in game shape, so it’s looking like the time for Logan Thompson to make his second ever NHL appearance. Thompson had two saves vs. Minnesota last week.
What once was a strength in the Vegas #2 defense in goals allowed now becomes a weakness in the unknown that is the rookie Thompson. There’s still a chance Fleury plays as well though.
Don’t forget, Vegas could also be going against a backup too as Binnington logged a lot of ice time Friday. He’s got to be exhausted too, facing 40 shots and rejecting 35 of them.
St. Louis Blues
So how does the St. Louis goaltending prospects look if Binnington does not go? Ironically not to bad as Ville Husso is on a 4-0-1 streak over his last five – all on the road.
What the Blues do with Husso though is pick and choose his battles. 8 of his 9 appearances this year have come against either the Ducks, Sharks, Coyotes, or Kings – the four worst teams in the conference.
Husso hasn’t seen a team like Vegas, who has scored 4 or more goals in 5 of their last 7. The Blues are just 2 points back from the Golden Knights in the West, but are just 4-6-2 at home on the year.
Can St. Louis find the pressure to even up this 2nd string goaltender fest? They managed just 23 shots against Fleury, but impressively snuck four of them past. Fleury had allowed 2 goals over three starts, but has given up 4 in two straight.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Golden Knights are 6-2 last 8 overall
- Under is 7-2 in Golden Knights last 9 road games
- Under is 9-4 in Golden Knights last 13 overall
- Blues are 1-6 last 7 home games
- Golden Knights are 1-4 last 5 in St. Louis
Free Vegas Golden Knights vs. St. Louis Blues NHL Prediction:
One angle to take in this one is that of the over. It’s expected to be a couple back-up goaltenders and a couple of offenses that are 11th and 12th in scoring on the year.
The Blues are mediocre at home, yet Vegas struggles when visiting the Arch, going just 1-4 over their last 5 at the Enterprise Center. The Blues have gone to OT in four straight games, losing three of them.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: St. Louis (+1.5)
Once the line is released, check the value because there’s a chance the Blues could even be favored.
