The Vegas Golden Knights aren’t as big a favorite as one might think heading into their meeting in Minnesota on Wednesday. Vegas is listed at -115, but were +100 in Monday’s loss.
Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights had a rare offensive dud on Monday, getting all 26 of their shots stonewall by the upstart goaltender for the Wild, Kaapo Kahkonen.
Not getting anything going vs. Minnesota last time out was kind of rare. Vegas had rattled off 19 goals in the previous four games and ranks in the top five in scoring in the NHL (3.3).
Max Pacioretty and Alex Tuch both have a dozen goals this season. Pacioretty was shut out on 5 shots vs. the Wild last time out, but he still has 8 points in the last 5 games.
Vegas isn’t a sure thing on Wednesday, as they haven’t traveled this far East all season. The new division alignment puts Minnesota at a disadvantage a lot with travel, but it works the same way in reverse.
The Golden Knights are also down to one goaltender as Robin Lehner fights through an upper body injury. Unfortunately for the Wild, Marc-Andre Fleury is in the zone with 2 goals allowed total the last 3 games.
Minnesota Wild
The Wild really managed just one legit goal in Monday’s win, with the second score coming on the empty net with 0:46 left. They may be facing the same fait on Tuesday as Vegas is a bit more acclimated to the travel.
Fleury should be his usual solid self in net for Vegas, but can Kahkonen repeat his? The second year netminder has allowed 2 goals or less in six of his last seven, the the Golden Knights have a special offense.
The Wild played Vegas to kick off March, losing 4-5 in OT the first game and 1-5 in the second. That’s a lot of goals given up in two games, but Minnesota completely bounced back in the Twin Cities.
So is location that big of a key in what could be a Minnesota win to tie the season series? The Wild are 6-3 on their own ice this season, and although Vegas is 6-3 on the road all their away games this year have been West of the Mississippi.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Golden Knights are 6-1 last 7 overall
- Golden Knights are 4-1 last 5 road games
- Under is 13-3 in Golden Knights last 16 road games
- Wild are 4-0 last four home games
- Wild are 8-3 last 11 overall
- Golden Knights are 1-4 last 5 in Minnesota
Free Vegas Golden Knights vs. Minnesota Wild NHL Prediction:
Expect a lot of the public to like Vegas at -115 here. That’s a rare price for a 1st place team that is 5th in scoring and 3rd defensively in the entire NHL.
That -115 seems very much too tempting though. The Golden Knights got hammered as +100 underdogs on Monday and ultimately fell 2-0. The struggle with travel is real.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
The big problem here is that Minnesota is going to have a hard time scoring in their own rights. That makes the total the best play.
