A couple of Western division powerhouses meet up on Saturday afternoon in the Mile High City. Colorado and Vegas are tied atop the standings with 45 points, with the winner sitting atop the pedestal.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas had the edge early on Thursday after a Max Pacioretty shot slipped into the net 0:40 into the game. That was about the high point for the Golden Knights though, as Colorado scored the next five unanswered.
The loss to the Avs was another sloppy outing from Vegas, who also lost 1-3 at L.A on Sunday as -159 favorites. They did have a 5-1 win over the Blues during the week, which was a good win playing on 0 days rest.
One big question ahead of Saturday’s game is who goes in net for Vegas. Marc-Andre Fleury has been between the pipes for the Kings and Avalanche losses, allowing 5 goals on 32 shots Thursday night.
Robin Lehner has also recently returned from injury, allowing 2 goals in a win over the Kings and just 1 in the victory over the Blues this past week. Either way, deciding between those two is a good problem to have.
Thursday’s win was relatively easy for Colorado considering Vegas had won 6 of their last 7 games coming into that meeting. The Avs’ are on a nice little run of their own right now too though with points in 9 straight games.
Colorado has arguably the best top line in the NHL, and they are all clicking right now. Mikko Rantanen has scored in 5 of the last 6 games, Nathan Mackinnon has 10 points in the last 5, and Gabriel Landeskog has a goal in 4 of the last 5.
Jared Bednar has a Stanley Cup contender on his hands, and it’s not just because of the Avs’ offense that ranks 2nd in the league scoring 3.5 goals/game. The Colorado defense is 3rd best this season.
Philipp Grubauer in net is the real reason Colorado at such a high price doesn’t even seem bad on Saturday. Gru leads the league in GAA (1.69) and is second in save percentage (.931) and wins (20).

Free Vegas Golden Knights vs. Colorado Avalanche NHL Prediction:
Colorado is on a nice roll right now, but -175 seems like a huge price to pay in a matchup of two teams that are tied atop the division. It was a very similar -169 line on Thursday though and that proved to be easy money in a 5-1 Colorado win.
A lot of this game depends on who goes in net for the Golden Knights. Fleury has struggled lately, but Lehner is fresh and has looked decent since his return from injury. Lehner vs. Grubauer has the makings of a 3-2 game, if not lower.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
Betting under the total is always tricky with Colorado’s great offense, but it’s worth it in this one.
