On the other side, Edmonton scored on 3 of their 4 chances on the man-advantage. For the Oilers, it was similar plays on the power play that burned the Canucks. Get the puck down low, utilize the bumper and hammer it home.
A positive was that they generated 36 shots on net and conceded just 25 against. Another thing that they’ll need to carry over into this game and throughout the season was their quick start. Getting on the board early was something they struggled with last year, but both Elias Pettersson and J.T. Miller scored just 51 seconds apart from each other in the first three minutes.
Philadelphia Flyers
A somewhat surprising win in their first game of the season has put the Flyers up 1-0-0 on the season after finishing with the worst record in the Metropolitan Division last year. It was also a bit unexpected considering they had lost their last 5 preseason games heading into opening night.
They scored 4 of their goals in between both of the Devils’ goals before adding an empty netter for the 5-2 win. Both teams went 1/3 on the power play and the Flyers had Travis Konecny and Morgan Frost each putting up 2 goals a piece.
Granted it was against a Devils team that is young and has been floundering the last couple of seasons. New Jersey also started Mackenzie Blackwood who is coming off of 2 losing seasons and played in just 25 contests last year.
