New Jersey is on a cross conference road trip and are heading into Vancouver after a brutal 4-0 loss to the Edmonton Oilers.
Amazingly, despite being on the other side of the country in a different conference New Jersey and Vancouver have already played this year, back on Oct 10 when Vancouver visited the Garden State.
In that game New Jersey managed a 1-0 win. Which was at the time, only New Jersey’s second win on the season, after dropping six straight.

Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver looked a little shaky to start the season, perhaps exacerbated by a lengthy road trip. Back in early October many thought the Canucks were still in a rebuilding phase.
That was before Elias Pettersson emerged as one of the league’s top forwards and Jacob Markstrom proved himself a top tier goalie. Not to mention great play from team captain, Bo Harvart.
As well, it was back-up Thatcher Demko in goal that night, not Markstrom (although, to be fair Demko’s play this year has been solid.)

New Jersey Devils
While Vancouver had a bit of a shaky start to the season, it was nothing like New Jersey’s six straight losses. Beating Vancouver at home, on the strength of a single power play goal was the highlight of their season then, and even now, is one of the few high points they can look too.
Now in the intervening month, Vancouver has soared and the Devils are stuck in the basement. So what can they bring to the game that should have the Canucks worried?
Mackenzie Blackwood is, shall we say, less than stellar in net, but just when you think you’ve figured him out, he gets how and shuts down all comers. The Canucks learned that the hard way, when Blackwood got the shut out against them in October.
The Devil’s strategy will be to play a dead puck game just as they did when they were Stanley Cup Champions. But that was over 15 years ago, Blackwood is very, very far from being a Martin Brodeur.
Free Vancouver Canucks vs. New Jersey Devils NHL Prediction:
Even if New Jersey plays a slow patient game, falling back to the blue line, hoping to frustrate Vancouver’s fast skaters and capitalize on their mistakes, that’s still reeling on getting a good night from Blackwood.
The Canucks on the other hand will be eager for payback on home ice. They’re likely to make some mistakes as their over confidence going into this game may be hard to rein in. Still, they’ve shown they can score goals, with two very strong lines, defence and even the third line contributing reliably.
