After an exciting game one that saw the Washington Capitals come back from a 2-0 defecit and win 3-2 in overtime, game two kicks off on Saturday in the Verizon Center.
It was an encouraging performance from Toronto and the team will look to build on that first game and grab a win on the road before heading back to its home ice.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Rookie Mitch Marner kicked the scoring off in the first period for Toronto, followed by Jake Gardiner eight minutes later. Two goals in the first 10 minutes had the Leafs encouraged.
Unfortunately, it was short-lived as the defense and inexperience let Washington right back into the game when the Capitals scored on a power play. The Caps followed up with another goal in the 2nd and then the overtime winner.
Auston Matthews was extremely quiet in this game, getting off just a single shot in 18 minutes of ice time. He’ll have to be much more involved in the offense if Toronto is going to grab a win in game two.
The Washington Capitals looked extremely shaky in those first 10 minutes of game one but regained its composure and finished off the come from behind win.
Two goals from Justin Williams tied the game up and Toronto-born Tom Wilson’s wrist shot found the back of the net in overtime to win the game.
Much like Auston Matthews for Toronto, superstar Alex Ovechkin was quiet in this game. He had just a single shot in nearly 20 minutes of ice time and didn’t look convincing while he was out on the ice.
Look for more from Ovechkin and T.J. Oshie, who also had just a single shot, in game two.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Washington is 10-2 SU in the last 12 games
- The UNDER is 4-1 in Toronto’s last five games
Free Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Washington Capitals NHL Playoff Prediction:
Washington will look for a much more convincing performance than it had in game one against Toronto. The Capitals will grab the W and take a 2-0 lead heading to Toronto next week.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Toronto ATS
Toronto’s ability to score really showed in the first period but it’s questionable defense was the story behind why the team ended up losing. However, with how good the Leafs offense looked, I think Toronto can keep these games close. I like Toronto to cover the spread.
