The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their four-game road trip Tuesday, and they will face the Vancouver Canucks, who, for their part, continue their topsy turvy season.
But when the Leafs come to town, the Canucks seem to always bring their A-game. And they had better. Vancouver looked like a potential offensive powerhouse early this season, with solid goaltending to boot, only to see their offense sputter, and their net minders falter.
Still, Toronto will have to keep the potent Canucks’ power-play at bay as Vancouver leads the NHL with 31 goals with the man advantage while the Maple Leafs have given up 23 short-handed goals in order to add a much needed win to their points column.

Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs offense woke up in their last game in a convincing 5-2 win over the top tier St. Louis Blues. They cam out on fire, scoring four goals in the first period, then buckling down to keep the Blues strong offense ooff their net.
Forward Auston Matthews finally broke out of a five-game goalless drought and potted two of those five goals against the Blues.
The Leafs will head into this game with a record of 14 wins and 13 losses, that puts them at 4th in the Atlantic Division, which isn’t bad.
They have a total of 99 goals on the season, which is good for 6th in the East and 8th in the NHL overall. So, they have been scoring all season, just not when it counts. They seem to have come to the realization that of the can get in front early, the defense can take them home for the win.
For example, against the Blues they earned a goal on 5 out of the 27 shots. Furthermore, they were two for two on the power play.

Vancouver Canucks
Vancouver has yet to learn the ‘scoring when it counts’ rule. They let a two-goal third period lead slip away against Buffalo in their last game. But, they held on for a 6-5 victory thanks to a J.T. Miller power play goal.
However, Vancouver’s goaltending, which was solid earlier this season, has now become spotty. They gave up five goals on 28 shots. Back-up Thatcher Demko was in goal against Buffalo, and after his performance against them, there’s no doubt number one goalie Jacob Markstrom will get the start.

It’s tempting to take Toronto here. They seem to be on the rise, and will be motivated to get the win against another Canadian team. It’s not Montreal, but Toronto loves to beat Vancouver.
Still, despite giving up five goals and a two goal lead, Vancouver did get the win against Buffalo, and that makes two in a row. Three and it’s a streak, and as much as Toronto likes to beat Vancouver, Vancouver likes to beat Toronto even more.
