Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs are having one of the best seasons in their storied franchise history.
At 30-13-5 and with a goal differential of +29, they’ve all-but locked up the No. 1 seed in the North Division. They’ve won two games in a row and are 5-3-2 in their last 10.
Behind Mitch Marner, Auston Matthews and John Tavares, Toronto owns an explosive offensive attack that scored the most goals in the Canadian division. Even more impressive, the Leafs 3.38 away goals per game this season ranks second in the NHL.
And the Leafs have been dominant on the road, posting a 16-6-2 record away from their home ice.
Montreal Canadiens
After barely sneaking past the Flames Monday night, the Canadiens should have locked up a playoff spot. They are now six points ahead of fifth-place Calgary.
Following that 2-1 victory, Montreal has now scored 136 goals and allowed 136 goals. Both of those stats rank exactly average in the NHL, as the Canadiens are 16thin goals per game and 16thin goals allowed per game.
Despite posting a 21-17-9 record, Montreal has been one of the lesser profitable teams in the NHL this season. If you had bet $100 on every Montreal moneyline, you would be down about $1000.
Probably for two reasons: First, they’ve posted a lackluster 10-10-2 record at home, and second, they’re just 15-18-7 as favorites this season.
Free Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Montreal Canadiens NHL Prediction:
It’s worth noting that both teams will be missing their usual starting goalies, as Frederick Anderson and Carey Price are still dealing with injuries.
However, the netminders today have played especially well. Toronto’s Jack Campbell is 13-2 on the season with a .922 save percentage, while Montreal’s Jake Allen is 9-9 with a .913 save percentage.
While they’ve both played well, Campbell has the advantage in this one. Campbell sports a 5.9 GSAA (goals saved above average) to Jake Allen’s 3.0.
While Montreal won the last game between these two, 4-2 at home, I think Toronto wins this game more times than not. As a short favorite, I’ll happily play the Leafs on the road today.
