The Toronto Maple Leafs continue their road trip and match-ups against Canadian teams other than Montreal. They’re just off a convincing win against Vancouver, and now head to Calgary.
For their part, the Calgary Flames are hot off a win against the Arizona Coyotes and looking to power up the Pacific Division standings where the points race is tightening up.
The two teams are clearly thriving under new coaches, but one of them has to lose when they meet Thursday night.

Toronto Maple Leafs
The Leafs certainly must be feeling good about coming into Vancouver and winning 4-1 in their last contest. They certainly played well in the win. They scored on four out of 26 shots on goal, and held the Canucks dynamic offense to almost a standstill.
Although, on two power play opportunities they failed to get a goal.
The man in the crease for Toronto is Frederik Andersen. Andersen has 2.48 GAA and a save percentage of .921, which ranks him 7th among Eastern Conference goaltenders and 14th in the NHL among goalies. So, pretty decent numbers there, and he’s made the difference in more than few games for Toronto.
Calgary Flames
The Flames come into this game with 17 wins and 12 losses. Their total goals for the season to date is 88, which is far from spectacular goals and ranks them 9th in the Western Conference. But that doesn’t tell the whole story as their offensive output has definitely picked up in recent games.
However, goaltending remains a weak spot. In goal for Calgary is David Rittich, who is having a marginal year, with 2.74 GAA and a save percentage of .908, that puts him at 22nd among goaltenders in the NHL.

Calgary did manage to pull off their win against surging Arizona without their leading scorer, Matthew Tkachuk (12 goals, 15 assists). He will likely be out Thursday against the leafs as well.
However, Zac Rinaldo, playing for only the fifth time this season against the Coyotes took up the slack with a goal and an assist. So, Calgary are still finding offensive output deep into their roster, making up for the weakness at goal.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Toronto ML
Most oddsmakers have this game as a pick’em. There’s a lot to like on both sides, as noted, both teams have benefitted from a change at the head coach position, add to the mix that Calgary is usually a strong home team and it’s tempting to go with them.
Ultimately however, Toronto has the superior goaltender, and when it’s close nothing is a more telling stat.
Take Toronto and the under.
