The Golden Knights come into Saturday as one of the hottest teams in the NHL on a 4 game winning streak and getting at least a single point in 5 straight. Meanwhile the Lightning are coming in off of a very disappointing 1-0 Shootout loss to the Arizona Coyotes.
The Lightning put up 47 shots on Connor Ingram on Wednesday night but couldn’t solve the rookie. Lightning have been playing well lately 6-2-2 in their last ten games and deserved a better result vs the Coyotes
Golden Knights are red hot right now and come in playing some of the best hockey in the NHL, last time out they defeated the Sharks at home 2-1 and outshot them 38-26. Surprisingly the Knights don’t have the strongest home record for a team of this caliber.
These teams last met on January 29th of last season with Vegas squeaking out a 3-2 win. It’s been a while since these teams have matched up so let’s take a deeper look at this awesome match up.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa is coming off of a frustrating performance against the Coyotes where they heavily outshot Arizona but couldn’t find the back of the net vs former Lightning 3rd round draft pick Connor Ingram.
Offense
The Lightning are one of the NHL’s best offensive teams, ranking 5th in goals per game at 3.5 per 60 mins, Tampa also has the 3rd best power play and can change a game in a hurry with that PP Unit.

Defense
Tampa also has a above average defense and a top notch goaltender, Lightning give up the 12th least amount of goals in the National Hockey League and have one of the leagues best penalty kills. In game where the teams seem to be very even this match up could come down to special teams.
One thing to note is the Lightning’s lack of discipline, they rack up almost 12 penalty mins per game which ranks them 28th worse in the league, luckily they match up against a Vegas team who’s power play has been struggling.
Goaltending
All early indications point to Andrei Vasilevski to get the nod between the pipes on Saturday. Andrei has only allowed more then 3 goals once in his last 9 starts, comes in Saturday with a 26-13-1 record and a sparkling 2.53 goals against average.
With Vegas having injury issues in net the Lightning have the advantage in the goaltending match up.
Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas will put their 4 game winning streak on the line vs the Lightning on Saturday, this run for Vegas a bit surprising as they have lost both of their goalies to injuries. With both Robin Lehner and Logan Thompson out they have been going with Adin Dell who is 2-0 since Thompson was hurt.
Vegas had to work hard for the 2 points vs San Jose needing two third period goals and a late goal from William Carrier to grab the win. Vegas however was much the best outshooting SJ 38-26.
Offense
Offensively, Vegas is a middle of the pack offence averaging 3.2 goals per game which ranks them 15th. They are one of the better volume shooting teams though ranking 10th in shots per game at 32.8.
A big part of why the Vegas offence is not as elite as its been in past years is the power play, converting at just 21% only good enough for 18th in the league. Vegas has not scored a power play goal since January 22nd vs Arizona, going 0/21 since.
Defense
Defensively Vegas has been impressive of late, giving up just 7 goals in their last 7 games, also only giving up 5 over the last 4 wins. Vegas coming in giving up 2.76 goals per game and has one of the best shots on goal against numbers only giving up 30 shots per game which is 9th in the NHL
Goaltending
With Vegas missing the two top goalies in the organization a lot of credit needs to be given to Adin Dell for stepping up and playing well, he’s won the 2 starts he’s been given since Thompson was injured and even before Thompson wen’t down he was still playing very well.
Dell should get the start and look to continue his excellent run of play.

I’m going with the under on Saturday night, Vasilevski has been so good this year coming off of a great effort in Arizona plus Dell has been so good of late since taking over the crease. I expect a close and low scoring battle
