The Islanders bounced back from an 8-2 beating in game one, but they still couldn’t come up with a win falling 2-1 to the Lightning. Tampa Bay now has a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference Finals.

It’s do-or-die time for the Islanders who don’t want to go down 3-0 to a team like Tampa Bay. New York is down to a +125 underdog after being listed as +136 and +142 in the first two games. Is that a good sign?
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay didn’t have the offensive showing in game two that they did in the series opener. The Lightning netted 8 pucks on 34 shots on Monday, but were held to two scores on just 21 shots on Wednesday.
Nikita Kucherov came up big for the Lightning in game two, scoring a one-timer with 9 seconds left to push Tampa Bay to a 2-0 series lead.
Andrei Kasilevskiy has been a stalwart in net for Tampa Bay this entire postseason. The Islanders have managed just 3 goals against the Lightning goaltender on 52 shots for a .942 save percentage. Vasilevskiy is on a six game win streak.
New York Islanders
New York should take solace in that they were 9 seconds away from forcing OT in game two after losing by six goals in the series opener. The Islanders are still down 0-2 though and are facing what is basically a must win on Friday.
The Islanders seem to have found some balance in net as Semyon Varlamov was decent in allowing just two goals in game two. Those two scores came while facing just 21 shots though.
Varlamov allowed 5 of Tampa Bay’s scores in Monday’s game one but Thomas Greiss wasn’t much better allowing 3 goals on just 9 shots in the start. The Islanders will likely go with Varlamov in game three.
