Don’t look now but the Oilers are playing their best hockey of the season. Ever since the calling up of Vincent Desharnais the complexion of this team in their own zone has completely changed.
Jay Woodcroft puts the lines in the blender a little too much for my liking especially tonight against Seattle, every other shift there was a new bunch out there. As an observer I wonder if that has to be confusing as a player to have no continuity shift to shift.
However, it’s tough to criticize the mans coaching tactics because they have looked stellar the last 5 including tonights drubbing of the Kraken. And if it had not been for a flukey goal that went through Campbell’s mitt and Darnell Nurse tipping one in for the opponent Soupy would have had a shutout.
On to the next one though and that would be the Lightning from out east whose residents are looking for something to cheer for after seeing their Buccaneers get ran outta their own building by the Cowboys.
Lightning On A Tear
The Bolts are on a 4 game heater and are 8-2 in their last ten games. They do play tonight against the Canucks therefore I like the rest factor Edmonton will have over Tampa as they’ll likely travel tonight after the game.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa is 5th in the NHL in goals per game with 3.6, slightly behind Edmonton and the Kraken who Edmonton just trounced last night.
What is interesting about the Lightning this season is that their defensive play has taken a drastic hit with the exit of Ryan McDonagh which is surprising considering the guys they still have.
At the time it made sense that McDonagh would be the cap casualty after they signed Mikhael Sergachev but now that move isn’t looking so hot. They allow 30.5 shots on goal per game and 2.88 goals per game which keeps them in the money still but isn’t what we have come to expect from them especially with Vasilevskiy.
East vs. West
Tampa Bay’s record against Western Conference teams is unreal, 13-4. Edmonton’s record against Eastern Conference teams is an average 8-7, not terrible but should be better at this stage of the Oilers development.
Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers dominated the Kraken last night from start to finish and are continuing their streak of solid team play and full 60 minute performances. It could be that this core is just a second half team.
Darnell Nurse continues to struggle however as I mentioned earlier and this team still does need to trade for some help at the deadline to shore up the left side of their defensive unit.
Jack Campbell Finding His Form
Campbell has now won 5 straight starts and since new years he has a .910 save %. He appears to have settled into his new situation and has found his game.
The saves he’s making right now are impressive ones too, difficult one timers and deflections, doesn’t matter he is seeing the puck so well right now. It’s great news for Oilers fans and especially Ken Holland who gambled big time on his contract this off-season.

4* Free Tampa Bay Lightning vs. Edmonton Oilers NHL Betting Pick: Oilers ML
This is a tough one to handicap actually because obviously the Oilers have to come back to earth at some point but I can’t bet against the boys when they’re hot. But the Lightning are equally as hot so it’s tough to fade them as well.
I looked at the total as maybe an under but that seems like a fools errand with these two offences. But Elliot is expected tonight against Vancouver which all but guarantees that Vasilevskiy will get the call for tomorrow night.
I have to assume that Campbell will get the start as well for the Oilers but I will monitor that situation for you guys and update this if needed, but if that is the case the total of 8.5 seems very high.
I ultimately settled on the Oilers as home dogs, seems like the only way.
