Both Tampa Bay and Chicago were in action on Tuesday with each team picking up a loss. For Tampa, their defeat was just more struggles on the road but the ‘Hawks loss killed momentum from a 4-game winning streak.
The line is a bit late coming out for this one as of publishing on Wednesday. That’s because Nikita Kucherov is questionable for TB with an upper body injury.
Tampa Bay Lightning
Tampa Bay has definitely experienced a President’s Trophy hangover as they sit in 6th in the Atlantic, 11 points off the pace of Boston for the top spot.
The Lightning have still been scoring though, despite their 9-7-2 record. In fact, Tampa Bay boats the league’s #2 offense in terms of goals/game at 3.7.
Tampa Bay was shut down 1-3 at St. Louis their last game, managing just 18 shots on goal. Is that a sign of things to come if Kucherov is going to miss some extended time?
Kucherov did leave Tuesday night’s game with an upper body injury after logging just 11:43 on the ice. His loss for Thursday would definitely be a blow considering Kucherov has posted 7 points in the 4 games prior to getting hurt.
Of course the reason Tampa isn’t front running despite their continued success on offense has been poor defensive play. The Lightning are 25th in GAA as a team and allow the 26th most SOG. The ‘Hawks have shown signs of finding their groove on offense as of late.
The Blackhawks saw themselves in a trap game on Tuesday, listed as +105 home underdogs despite winning their previous 4 games in a row. The bait took, as the Hurricanes scored a 4-2 win in that contest.
Can Chicago kick start their momentum back up on Thursday in front of the United Center crowd once again? It definitely doesn’t hurt that Tampa has lost 4 of their last 5 on the road, including as favorites of -214 to NYR.
Chicago had shown some sparks on offense prior to Tuesday’s loss. The Blackhawks had scored 21 goals in the 4 previous games led by Patrick Kane who has 19 points in his last 10 games.
Chicago has been much more than a one-man wrecking crew as of late and Kirby Dach has shown signs of future stardom with 7 points in the last 5. Alex Debrincat also has 7 points in the last 5 for a deep Chicago squad.
The real pressure is on Corey Crawford in goal Thursday but his job obviously gets easier if Kucherov sits. Crawford seems to be buckling down a bit with 2 goals or less allowed in 3 of his last 4. He’s still volatile though after a horrible start to the season.
NHL Betting Trends:
- Favorite is 5-0 last 5 meetings
- Under is 9-2 last 11 in Chicago
- Lightning are 7-0 last 7 meetings
Free Chicago Blackhawks vs. Tampa Bay Lightning NHL Prediction:
Tampa Bay could be alright here even if Kucherov does indeed sit. They have owned the Blackhawks over the last couple years and Crawford hasn’t proven himself to be out of the woods yet in net for Chicago.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Lightning ML
Will be interesting to ultimately see the line on this one but TB is an expected slight favorite.
