There’s been no Stanley Cup hangover for St. Louis so far in the 2019/20 NHL season. The Blues have begun the year 3-1, including 2-1 on the road where they’ll be Monday afternoon.
The Islanders have had a decent opening couple weeks by their standards. New York is 2-3, including 2-2 at home.
St. Louis Blues
The Blues have had success so far this year mostly with their defense. St. Louis has only scored more than 3 goals in one of their five games.
That defense was exposed the last time out though in a 3-6 loss at Montreal. It’s one of the reasons wagering on St. Louis at -127 might not be such a sure thing – because they’ve been on the road for what will be the 4th straight game.
All three of those road games have been in Canada. The Blues beat Toronto last Monday 3-2 as +114 underdogs, went to Ottawa and picked up the 6-4 win at -205, and then had the loss to the Canadiens on Saturday.

It was Jordan Binnington in net in the debacle in Montreal as he gave up 5 goals on 37 shots. Binnington had allowed just 4 goals in the two starts prior. He’s up against the Islanders #27 scoring offense on Monday.
New York Islanders
New York isn’t going to do a lot to impress offensively in this one. The total is 5.5 which seems like an under play, not only because St. Louis has had their struggles at that end of the ice, so have the Islanders.
The Islanders have scored 2 goals or less in 3 of their 5 games this season. Four players have netted multiple goals however, led by Anthony Beauvillier who has 5 points on the year.
New York’s major problem is that they aren’t getting many attempts. The Islanders rank 29th in the league in SOG, averaging just 26.6 per game.

For as bad as their offense has looked, the NYI defense has at least looked decent. They’ve also held opponents to 2 goals or less in 3 of their 5 games. It’s been a rough go of it for the New York defense though, giving up 5 goals in 2 of their last 3 and 12 total over that span.
Semyon Varlamov was in net for one of those 4 goals allowed game. He’ll be back between the pipes on Monday afternoon. Varlamov did have a nice bounce back game last time out, leading the 3-2 SO win over the Panthers.

Free St. Louis Blues vs. New York Islanders NHL Prediction:
This game does favor the home team a bit with the awkward Monday afternoon start time. The Blues line is kind of low too at -127 which seems like bait. The best bet in this contest is for it to be a low scoring game.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: Under 5.5
These two offenses haven’t been too explosive early in the season.
