St. Louis Blues
The Blues are treading on some very dangerous waters.
After posting just a 5-5 record over the past 10 games, including losing three straight games at one point, the Blues now just have a one point lead over Arizona for the fourth and final West Division playoff spot.
The Blues have somehow amassed a winning record despite having a goal differential of -8. The defense has been largely bad, and they rank 25thin the NHL in penalty kill percentage (74.03%).
However, the Blues won two of three against the Wild this year, including a 9-1 beatdown in St. Louis on April 9th. Jordan Binnington and Co. will have to play just as impressive today, because this is as close to a must-win game as you can get.
Minnesota Wild
Minnesota has been one of the most impressive teams in hockey this season, especially recently.
The Wild have won seven straight games and now boast a 31-13-3 record. It’s unfortunate they share a division with Vegas and Colorado, who boast the two best goal differentials in hockey, because they’d otherwise be vying for a No. 1 playoff seed.
When the Wild are playing at home, they’ve been impossible to score on. They’re allowing just 2.1 home goals per game, which ranks second in the NHL. The defense is a huge reason they’ve amassed a 17-4 home record this season.
While the Wild have already clinched a playoff spot, they’re just one point behind the Avalanche for the second seed in the West. So, they may still play tough.
Free St. Louis Blues vs. Minnesota Wild NHL Prediction:
I think there are two ways to bet this game.
The Blues defense has been average, but they’ve been playing better defense on the road. They’re allowing just 2.9 away goals per game vs. 3.11 overall goals per game. That defense is a reason why they’ve posted a 12-8-2 road record vs. a 9-11-4 home record.
As mentioned, the Wild’s defense has been elite at home. Therefore, I think we’re in for a grind-it-out, low scoring game. The under is 2-1 in games between the Blues and the Wild this season and it’s 4-1 when they play in Minnesota.
However, I also don’t believe the Blues will have enough energy and firepower to pull out a win today. I’m expecting the Wild to barely hold on in a Rock Fight.
