This should an interesting game to watch, we have the Kraken who are the more desperate team here needing every point they can get as they battle for a playoff spot in a tight Western Conference, meanwhile the Blue Jackets are near the bottom and aren’t really worried about wins and losses.
Columbus has gone 2-1 in this match up since Seattle joined the league, but they did lose the most recent match up.
Seattle Kraken
Seattle comes into this game on a little mini 2 game winning streak after picking up wins over the Blues and most recently a 5-4 shootout win over the Red Wings on Thursday night. Seattle has been playing a little better after a really rough patch where they dropped 3 in a row and 4 of 6. Seattle is a dogfight in the Western Conference playoff race and really need to grab as many points as possible.
Offense
The Kraken are a better offensive team than they are defensively, they put up a really good amount of goals at 3.47 per game which ranks them 6th best. It’s a bit of a surprise however because they rank 24th in shots on goal at only 29 per game. Furthermore the power play is not good at all converting at only 19%. It is truly remarkable to see how many goals this team scores when their numbers are this bad.
Defense
On the defensive end the Kraken struggle a bit, but they do keep the shots on goal against to a minimum actually 3rd best in the NHL at only 27.9 per game, but they give up a lot of goals at 3.15 per game which is a result of poor goaltending in my eyes. Personally I feel a big reason for that is the fact that the penalty is absolutely pathetic, only killing off 72% of opponent’s power play opportunities.
Goaltending
Philipp Grubauer started for the Kraken on Thursday and since it’s a back to back situation I would expect Martin Jones to get the nod between the pipes on Tuesday, he has had a very good year record wise going 24-10-3, he also has 3 shutouts to his name this season but he does have a disappointing .890 save percentage.
Columbus Blue Jackets
Columbus will be coming into Friday after picking up a win over the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday. The Blue Jackets will for sure be the more rested side after having a couple days off after that win on Tuesday.
Columbus is currently in the bottom spot in the league and are just looking for this season to end as soon as possible, they have their eyes on Connor Bedard and it will be interesting to see if they can get good efforts for the rest of the season.
Offense
When you’re sitting dead last in the NHL there wont be many statistics that you will look good in and that is the case for this team’s offence, scoring only 2.5 goals per game and only getting 29 shots on target has them ranked 30th and 26th respectively. The power play does not help and it’s just an all round bad offence.
Defense
Defensively Columbus isn’t much better giving up 3.67 goals per game and giving up a ton of shots at 35.1 per 60 minutes. Both of those categories have them ranked 30th in the NHL, another category they are ranked 30th in is their lacklustre penalty kill.
Goaltending
Goaltending for Columbus is a bit of a question mark, the Blue Jackets traded for Jonathan Quick, but after just a single day they shipped him off to Vegas. Elvis Merzlikins is listed as the starter as of now, he has really struggled this season going 7-15-2 with a extremely high 4.10 goals against average and a poor .879 save percentage. Just like his team he has really had a tough year.

Free Seattle Kraken vs. Columbus Blue Jackets NHL Prediction
This one is simple for me, I know it’s the “easy” pick or the “square” pick, but square or not I want to win. I know they are on the back to back but this Columbus team is really bad, and the Kraken just need the points more. Kraken moneyline for me, you could also take the under.
