The San Jose Sharks, a team with five overtime losses in the last eight games, are having trouble finishing games and will look to get back on track against Vancouver.
The Canucks, coming off a 3-2 loss to Philadelphia, will look to bounce back at home and beat a San Jose that hasn’t looked nearly as dangerous in the month of February.
San Jose Sharks
It’s hard to say that San Jose’s level of play has diminished, because the team has just one regulation loss in the last eight games. However, the Sharks clearly can’t finish games right now, with just two wins over those last eight and overtime losses in the rest of them.
Normally a fantastic defensive team, the Sharks definitely haven’t looked as good on that end of the ice recently. The team has given up five or more goals in three of the last eight games, including six to Boston and Florida.
The offense has struggled at times as well. The good news is that there are still individual skaters that are playing fantastic hockey. Brent Burns leads the team with 27 goals and 37 assists. In his last five games, he has five goals and two assists.
Center Joe Pavelski has also been playing well during this recent stretch of games. He has 20 goals and 32 assists on the year, including two goals and three assists over his last five games.
Sitting 6th in the Pacific Division, the season is all but lost for the Vancouver Canucks and many are arguing that the team should just sit the veterans and let the young guys get some experience. When this argument comes about, you pretty much know the season’s wrapped up.
Vancouver has had a hard time on both ends of the ice this season, especially on offense. The Canucks ran 4th worst in the NHL in goals this year, with just 142 in 60 games. This is an average of less than 2.4 goals per game.
No player on the squad has hit 20 goals this season and the closest to that mark is center Bo Horvat.
Arguably the lone bright spot for Vancouver this year, he has 18 goals and 22 assists, playing some great hockey for being only 21. In his last five games, he has three goals and three assists.
If Vancouver is going to beat a tough Sharks team, it will require some great play from Horvat and the defense will need to find a way to stop the San Jose forwards.
NHL Betting Trends:
- The OVER is 5-3-1 in Vancouver’s last nine games
- San Jose is 2-6 SU in the last eight games
Free San Jose Sharks vs. Vancouver Canucks NHL Hockey Prediction:
San Jose is the better team but has had a lot of trouble closing out games, losing five of the last eight games in overtime or shootout scenarios. However, against a Canucks team that struggles to score, the Sharks should be able to hold them off and get the W on the road.
4* Free NHL Betting Pick: OVER 5
Both teams can score and neither have a particularly great defense. There should be quite a few goals in this one and taking the Over here is a good bet.
