A pair of red-hot Western Conference teams will try to notch an important win in the standings as the San Jose Sharks take on the St. Louis Blues.
The San Jose Sharks have been playing some of their best hockey of the season and find themselves right behind the Anaheim Ducks and L.A. Kings in the Pacific Division. San Jose has been surging through its potent offense, led by Joe Pavelski and his 54 points.
Pavelski has been the reason for more than a handful of San Jose’s wins this season as his eight game-winning goals are the most in the NHL.
The Sharks are currently 4th in the league in goals averaging 2.89 goals per game. They’re also 4th on the power play and 6th in shooting percentage.
But for all of their offensive explosiveness, San Jose has struggled to score goals on the road over the last few weeks. The Sharks are averaging just 2.4 goals per game over their last seven road games and are coming off an ugly 5-2 road loss to Carolina.
San Jose has been one of the best road team’s in the league this year but has enjoyed much greater success against Eastern Conference teams.
Led by a stout defense and some amazing goaltending from Brian Elliott, the Blues are riding a five-game winning streak and are just a few points behind the Chicago Blackhawks for the best record in the Western Conference.
St. Louis’ defense comes into this contest 4th in the NHL in goals allowed with 2.3 per game as well as the league’s No. 1 penalty kill.
Elliott has been on fire since taking over for the injured Jake Allen last month and has shown no signs of slowing down. Elliott is tied with Cory Schneider for the league lead in GAA at just 2.06 and his .931 save percentage is also the top mark in the league.
And over their last five home games, the Blues have only allowed eight goals, an average of just 1.6 per game.
The Blues have their own Joe Pavelski in Vladimir Tarasenko whose 28 goals rank 6th in the league, but St. Louis is led first and foremost by its incredibly stingy defense.

Free San Jose Sharks vs. St. Louis Blues NHL Hockey Prediction
This will be a classic offense vs. defense battle with two very important points on the line. San Jose has been scoring goals at ease lately, but the Sharks really haven’t faced a goaltender like Brian Elliott.
The Blues should do enough at home to fend off a very talented San Jose squad.
