San Jose is a huge -165 favorite in Ottawa on Sunday, but there are reasons to think that the Senators may not be a pushover in this one. Then again, it’s the Senators and thus wins are very few and far between.
It’s still looking like anybody could get the win here though considering the teams have lost 8 of their last 10 games combined.
San Jose Sharks
One of the reasons the Sharks look priced a bit high in this one is because Sunday marks their 4 straight road game. So far that stretch includes a loss at Buffalo, a win at Montreal, and a 1-4 defeat to Toronto on Friday night.
The Sharks big problem over the last 4 games has been their defense. San Jose has allowed 14 goals total over that span.
Martin Jones is trending downward as he gets the starting nod on Sunday. Jones has allowed 4, 4, and 3 goals in his last three games and is just 2-5-1 on the season. Jones’ .893 save percentage is 38th in the league.

San Jose should be able to get their offense going against Ottawa. Then again, most of the Senators woes come from their offense not being able to score.
The Sharks are averaging less than 3 goals per game this season however. San Jose did have a nice night on Thursday vs. Carey Price and Montreal though, scoring 4 goals on just 23 shots.
Ottawa Senators
There haven’t been a lot of bright spots for Ottawa this season, especially on the offensive end. The Senators are 2-7-1 on the season and their 5 points is the fewest in the league.
Believe it or not, Ottawa does get a lot of shots off. They fire 31.1 per game which is the 17th most in the NHL, it’s just that not a lot of those go in (2.4). The Senators also have the league’s worst Power play unit with just 7.4% success.

The Senators have been held to 2 goals or less on offense in 5 of their last 6. Their defense has held the opponents to 2 goals or fewer in 3 of those games however. Is Ottawa can get to Jones in net for the Sharks, they do have the defense to keep this one close.
It will be Craig Anderson in goal on Sunday. He is just 1-4 on the season but once again, it’s hard to post a good record with no offensive support. Anderson’s GAA is under 3 on the year.
