Colorado is a big -210 favorite on Thursday but are by no means a sure thing, coming into this game with a 4-game losing streak.
The Avalanche still boast one of the potent offenses in the NHL, but there defense and goaltending could surrender an L on any given night. It may be bad timing as well because San Jose is starting to put a little run together.

San Jose held a couple postseason hopefuls to just a goal apiece over the last week but took a road trip to Arizona and lost 3-6 on Tuesday. The Sharks look to bounce back and with a nice payout at +175.

The Sharks have played 6 of their last 8 games on the road. Results were very up and down with a loss to the worst team in the league Detroit to kickoff their travels.
Wins against Pittsburgh and Columbus did follow on the Sharks recent road trip as did an OT loss at Washington. San Jose did enjoy two games at home allowing just 2 goals before the loss to Arizona last time out.
Aaron Dell was in net for both the Sharks wins at home. He allowed just 2 goals on 59 SOG vs. Columbus and Dallas. Martin Jones is the early probable for Thursday but he’s lost 8 of his last 9.
One thing that does put San Jose up against the wall on Thursday is the recent injury to Logan Couture. The Sharks have gone 2-1 since losing their captain, although scoring only 8 total goals.
Colorado Avalanche
Do the Sharks have the offense to keep up with Colorado in this one? The way the Avs have played lately maybe that question should be reversed as it’s been the Avs offense playing a big part in their 4-game losing streak.
Over the last four games, Colorado has lost to the Islanders, Rangers, Penguins, and Dallas – all as favorites. The loss to Pittsburgh and the Stars both came at the Pepsi Center too.
In the loss to the Islanders Colorado was shut out in a 0-1 loss, something almost unheard of for the Avs’ #3 scoring offense in the league. During their 4-game losing streak the Avs have netted just 8 total goals.
Philipp Grubauer is the expected starter in net for Colorado on Thursday. His 12-10-4 record is due largely in part to having a great offense in front of him but Grubauer does have a 2.92 GAA on the season.
Grubauer will lay some eggs some games lately, as he has allowed 4+ goals in 3 of his last 7 appearances. He hasn’t faced more than 30 shots in his last 5 games – and San Jose ranks 30th in SOG which is good for the Avs.
